    Dropping off late... vent

I have a mom who drops her daughter off late almost every morning. Most mornings her daughter misses snack as we are done it when she arrives. I have told all parents that they can drop off between 7 am and 8am. She arrives any time between 8:10 and 8:50 (use to be up to 10am). This is really driving me crazy, am I just over reacting?

I understand that she might not work until later in the day, but I have a schedule and this keeps interfering. One day she almost missed us as we where heading out for a walk when she arrived.

I don't mind if a parent is late every once in awhile. We all have those days where we are running late. But this is 3 to 5 times a week. I have mentioned to her that this messes up the schedule and is hard on all the kids, but I think it is going in one ear and out the other. I am thinking about telling her that if she is not here by 8 am then I will not be answering my door. She will have to take her daughter home for the day. She really want to be able to drop off and pick up when ever she likes.

I had problems with her texting me during quiet time wanting to pick up. This seems to have stopped as I just kept texting her back saying: You can pick up at 3 pm when quiet time is over.

Starting in September I will be doing school drop and everyone needs to be here by 7:40 so I can get my son to school on time.

I don't do drop offs past 9am...we have snack then we are off to start our day: the park, library, playgroup etc... If you are late, you miss out. I don't wait for parents and make sure this is clear.

I put a sign on my door saying we are out for a walk and then I let them look for us. The late arrivers soon get the hint that we will stick to our schedule wether they are here or not.

I let parents drop off whenever they want, except for the one day I do a preschool run. I had let everyone know on Thursdays we are gone from 8:10 to 8:40 so if they drop off during this time they have to wait in their car until I get back. But I rarely take the kids out otherwise, except a nature walk in the woods by my house so in those cases I leave a note on the door and they can come track me down or wait.
Pick ups during quiet time would not be cool with me!!

I have signs that I laminated and change accordingly. One is for nap time that says not to disturb, one is for when we were doing the school run and the last for when we are out in the community. I list my ph number on them and ask them to call me if need be.

I do ask for kids to be dropped off before 10 as any later and it is unfair to the kid who has no time to visit with friends before lunch and nap. They all drop off before 9 as they have quickly learned it is easier to do this then have to go look for us once we are out and about.

With the school drop off you can just inform them of the drop off time and let them know they either need to be at our place by this time ___ or after this time ___.

Just go about your business and leave a sign on your door. I have my 9 year old son in a program Tuesdays afterschool and I need to go pick him up for 4:15. I have repeatedly told parents about this and still get the parents who come early to pick up texting me asking where I am... Sigh. They can wait IMO. If they had let me know they would be picking up early ahead of time we could have co ordinated something. That stuff ticks me off!

If a child is dropped off here at 9am, which is my limit they must have been fed a full breakfast because we are heading outside and don't eat again until lunchtime at 11:30. Then I don't allow pickups until after 3pm so naps are not compromised. This is a strict rule or they have to find us at the park, etc. after 9am.

7:40 is pretty early, well for me it is, but I understand that you have to get your son to school. I don't have any arrivals until 8am so I'd probably lose all my clients if I wanted them here by 7:30. What time do you get home? Can you tell them the time you get home to bring their child and tell them that they have to be there within a 15-20 minute time frame because you are going on to the next thing in your day? Or can you do as I do and make the family meet you places if you are going out?

I like Momof4's suggestion as I think I would be fairly annoyed as a parent to have to drop off by 7:40 if I didn't have to be at work until 9 or something like that. I just tell parents what time we leave and what time we get back and they can drop before or after. PLus I always have my cell on me and they can call us and see where we are if we are out and about. I had the opposite problem this morning...a parent 10 mintues early...Grrrr! Not cool! I tried to ignore the bell but he rang again...so I let him in with his child but I told him I don't open until 7:30 and wasn't ready. This is a new parent so I sure hope he got the point because next time I will ignore the bell until 7:30 even he rings 10 times...LOL.
