Well...it is likely exactly because you are more casual in your approach that parents feel they can tell you things rather than ask. I am friendly and understanding, but I stick to my rules and parents know that...so I almost never get parents telling me what they are doing...they ask and they are very understanding if I say no. It's unfortunate, but when we are soft people take it for weakness.
