    Seriously?! overbudget???

I had an inquiry for daycare today but only for a few hours daily. I quoted $20 per day and the parents replied that was over their budget. I was like what? overbudget? what do people think is a fair rate? i don't know anyone in my area that charges less than 25 per day, with the odd 20/day.

A space is a space is a space. Why should you have no income to provide care for a few hours a day when you could have the space filled and be paid full price. $20 is very reasonable. That's what people would pay a teenager to come to their house for a few hours to watch their tv!

I got the same inquiry and also quoted her $20, she told me she could only afford $5 an hour yet she said she was getting 4 hours for $25 currently. I told her that the hours didn't work because she would be dropping off at sleeptime. She did not respond after that.

I think the parents would keel over if i told them i actually charge 30/35 per day, i was being very fair in giving them a deal since they only said they would need me for a few hours a day! Goes to show when you give an inch, some people want a mile. The parents said they would keep my info on file and let me know if they needed my services in the future ( it's not like i am going sit around and wait for them ). I replied 'ok thanks for inquiring about my daycare!" I wish i could have replied with something snarky, but i am always polite, even when i don't really feel like it.

Someone just contacted me and asked what I would charge for a five hour day. I told them $37. They emailed me back saying they shouldn't have to pay the full day because they weren't using my full day. I told them anything over four hours was full price. They didn't like that answer very much. Oh well!

Oh boy. I am so incredibly tired of people expecting us to give our time for free.

I don't negotiate my fee with anyone. I charge what is average in my area. You get what you pay for....do these people seriously expect you to work for free? They certainly don't.
