Minor Annoyances today
I woke up to a text from a mom whose children I occasionally care for. Her text said 'I wonder if you babysit in the evening? It's important'. I replied that I was busy tonight (which i am, i take a class on tuesdays) and she says 'it's for wednesday anyway. We got tickets to a concert but we won't be home til 11. I said I couldn't. I get my first child at 6.40 on Wednesday, there is no way I could function going to bed after 11 and being up at 6 the next day!!!
Then, A child's grandma dropped her off today instead of her dad. They came at 7.05 I open at 7.30. I hadn't opened my outer glass door yet and I guess they had knocked, so of course I didn't hear it until grandma started banging on my glass door. I opened the door and grandma said in an annoyed voice 'your door is locked'. I was honest a little taken by her but I said 'sorry I wasn't expecting you so early, her dad usually drops her off when I open at 7.30' She just said 'oh ok'. She dropped of the child and I said to grandma 'have a good day' and she just scowls and says 'I'll try, she (referring to the child) gave me the cold that she picked up from here'. (Side note, another child was sick and everyone got it including all of us and some kids parents too. you all know that despite our best efforts, germs always sneak in). all I could say was 'oh that sucks, ya we all got it too, my daughter had an ear infection too'. Some people are just not morning people LOL.

and some people are just rude. Obviously the dck's parents did not give grandma a heads up on the start time or grandma, in her head cold ravaged brain (from your daycare tsk tsk) decided that you would open up early for her because you have nothing else to do.
I had to laugh at the mom who wanted to know if you babysit in the evening. Don't we all? We have such an easy day running our daycares, what the heck, lets babysit in the evening too!!
Have a good day Lilywildcat

Oh thank you! And same to you! And everyone else!
Sometimes I am tempted to tell some people that my work days start at 7.30 (sometimes earlier) and don't end til 10pm, not 5:30 like my contracts say. After my dck's go home, I make our dinner. We eat, I tidy up then go to soccer/Zumba/groceries (depending on the day) wash and put my kids to bed, then I go I bed. But no one cares because they are too involved in their own lives lol

Well you are nicer then me because I would have open the door and said "sorry I'm not open yet and I'm not ready to begin the day pleased wait in your car till 730"

Holy cow! Do you BABYSIT in the evening? Grrrrrrr! Nope, you run a daycare in the hours set out in your contract! You are a businesswoman, not a doormat! And the disrespect you endured this morning - double grrrrrrr!!! I hope your day gets better Lilywildcat, it can't get much worse.

Hm. I would be stark raving angry pissed if someone came to my door before our agreed-upon time. I would most definitely mention her rudeness and her early arrival to your daycare parents. That isn't acceptable.

I open at 7:30. I come downstairs to unlock the door at 7:25. They could bang on the door all they want, but I wouldn't even hear them with the fan and window air-conditioner on full blast in my bedroom LOL

Oh my! that would have started my day off bad.
In my opinion, going to a concert isn't important, a nicety definitely, important no. Evenings are for babysitters. In an emergency or important meeting at work, I will keep a daycare child late or over night.
As for grandma! My daycare door stays locked until 7:25 for my 7:30 opening. I do not answer the door either. My families know me well enough I've had one call me "we are in your driveway, I know we are early but J really needs to go pee". I've had another parent call me, "we are in your driveway, I know we are early, but can you please open the door, I forgot I had an early morning meeting". If you have an opportunity, I would gently remind the parents, that an early arrival has the same fees as a late pick up, and in the future if Grandma drops off early without notice, they will be charged the additional fees.
I do think sometimes that people forget that even though we are home, we may not be ready for daycare. I've had the occasional day where I've been running late and scrambling to open daycare for the 7:30. It's not like a job outside of the home where (my families anyway) have flex hours and if they are running late they can just make it up another time. If I'm running late my job comes to me anyway.
