How do you handle before-and-after-school kids overlap?

Some wee ones have older siblings who go to school. Do B&A kids under 10 years of age count in the ratio allowed by DNA? If so, that means lesser income. How do you handle that?

I was with an agency for a short time and they gave me three siblings with behavioral problems (been kicked out from other providers) - since they were stuck, they turned a blind eye even when they knew I was going over the ratio. There was about 2 hours after school that I had more than 5 children under 10.

The ratio applies and they would need to be included in the five. That is one of the reasons it is hard to get a provider to take a school age child unless they are doing it to be a friend to one of their own children.

That's a good story about the LICENCED agency though! They are supposed to be so much better than us! And the media calls us illegal! Sorry, had to say it!

The agency I worked for in Alberta (Calgary) was allowed to put me over if they felt I was able to handle it. Because of my teaching background and experience I often got the child whose caregiver was sick. I was also often over in age ratio with more than 2 under two - ie those times when the one child I had would be 2 in a couple months and would be an under 3 at that point.

Mind you this was back years ago before regulations became the be all and end all rather than strong suggestions.

That's the big thing nowadays: tarnish everyone with the same brush to promote a political agenda.

Notice the innuendo that children do not learn anything from unlicensed daycares.

It all boils down to this: They want a universal daycare and they'll try everything to push for it.

They're willing to ignore the fact that a lot of providers will become "unemployed" should they be forced to close down their business.
