    Taking childrens' photos....

Do you need a written permission, or do you have it in your contract?

I have an actual photography page where parents give permission for photos to be used in various ways from crafts in the daycare to on my website, on facebook, etc. and can also choose from not at all, back of head, full face, etc.

You should have permission to use the photos although it is ok to take them but not much point if you can't use them.

Yes, I obtain written permission to take photo's. I do not post them on line. I do have a multi photo frame that I change monthly that I keep in my daycare entrance. The parents love looking at the photo's and the kids like seeing themselves. I also sometimes email a cute photo to parents just as a nice surprise.

Yes, I have a "May the child's photograph be taken and used on the childcare website?" question on the signature page of my contract with a YES/NO for them to circle.

In the US, I would advise people to have a release signed, with the understanding that the permission can be revoked at anytime via written notice-- I am not sure the canadian laws though

I also have a clause in my contract where parents can choose whether or not they wish to have their children's pictures taken. I lay right out in the contract where those pictures will be used (ie. in the daycare, in newsletters, etc.

I definitely have a picture permission form and it states that I will never use the children's pics anywhere except on my website. It also states that I retain ownership of all the pics after the families leave my care. I had one family who wanted me to take down all their child's photos after they were terminated, so I learned that lesson.

I take a lot of pics of the children and get them developed because when they graduate I make them a huge scrapbook that they can keep forever about their daycare days.

A few tips...

Always ensure that your child receives quality care by taking the time to investigate the provider and by asking for references! We simply cannot verify the claims of every daycare provider.
