    DCP's idea of breakfast....

I told all dc parents yesterday that if their child eats breakfast here in the morning, that they will need to be fed prior to coming today. We had an appliance repair person come in that needed to disconnect hoses, pull apart dishwasher, etc.

Everyone was fine with it. One of my dcm's asked if she could do an early drop off at 7:00am. And that she will be bringing dcb's breakfast and snack with him, as it was too early to feed him breakfast at home when he woke up. I have a No Food/Drink policy in my daycare. I of course made the exception this time, seeing as it was early and likely plucked from his bed, then straight to daycare. So I agreed.

So I took his lunch pack into the daycare so he could eat and found: 5 pk chocolate milk straws, three cold uncooked hotdogs, one cheese string, a pack of soft chocolate cookes. And 5 Ritz Crackers. Probably the only healthy thing in there. Seriously This is breakfast?? No wonder he gives me such a hard time about eating his veggies and fruits and home cooked meals. On the days we have Pizza lunch (I order twice a month on a Friday for a treat) he gobbles up and asks for thirds

So..he wasn't hungry and didn't eat a thing. But did get a healthy snack at 10:00am at the park of clementines, Real Marble cheddar and goldfish crackers.

BTW...my own kids do get their fill of "junky" food. But certainly not for breakfast. Especially if my provider was going to feed it to my kid.

Omg I am just shocked that a parent would feed this to their child for breakfast. WTH?!? I'm pretty sure that if my DCP were bringing breakfast to daycare they would be on their A game and bring something healthy as they know I am a health nut. Honestly uncooked hot dogs?

Chocolate milk straws and cookies? Wait - am I supposed to give the kids dessert after breakfast?

Regardless of the unhealthy nature of the food, where is the balance? Where's the portion control? 3 hot dogs in a single meal... How hard is it to throw a banana or apple in a bag?

    I'm stunned.

I have never heard of chocolate milk straws? OMG hot dogs that poor child. As far as I'm concerned that us considered abuse. 3 hotdogs contain more than that child's daily allowance of fat, let's not even get into the fact that they contain nitrates that cause cancer.

It's time for a chat about nutrition and I wouldn't even hesitate.
