    Exclamation Known scams

Below is a list of past and current scams. These hoaxes have been reported by some of our users. Please, don't hesitate to contact us should you receive a suspicious message, so we can add it to this list.

As always, we advise you not to deal with persons from outside the country and/or persons you never met. DO NOT cash checks, money orders or similar items, as these requests are usually scams. We also noticed that scammers also seem to love to use @icloud.com email addresses.

    The Mexican Family

You might receive an email from a "Canadian family", claiming that they wish to come back to Canada, from Mexico. They have children and might send you a bogus picture of them. They will offer to send you a money order to reserve their spots and will ask you to return part of the money order to them, for different reasons. This money order is fake. Should you deposit it at your bank, it will bounce after a few weeks. In the meantime, you will have sent the refund to the "Canadian family". In the end, you will be out of pocket the amount you sent to the scammers.

    The single dad

You might receive an email from a single dad, without any mention of a specific country. You will learn later that he is out of the country and/or coming back to Canada (it is a variation of the Mexican family scam above). They even send you nice pictures. As always, do not cash checks, money orders or similar items, as these requests are usually scams.

    The UK Missionary Family

You might receive an email about childcare from a couple who would be coming to Canada from the UK, for a missionary trip. They will mention that they would require childcare for their child. They will also offer to send you a certified cheque, covering your service fees, as well as their airfares (since their supposed missionary sponsor only issues one cheque for them). They will request that you deposit this cheque, and send them back the part of the money that is supposed to cover their airfares. This scam is similar to the one above: the cheque is fake and will bounce after a couple of weeks should you deposit it at your bank. In the end, you'll be out of pocket the amount you send them back.

    The Free Gift From DaycareBear

It seems our site has been specifically targeted by this scam. You might receive an email claiming to be from DaycareBear and asking you to fill in a survey. As a thank you, the email will state that you will receive a free gift. This is a hoax. We never sent our users a survey to complete and advise you not to follow the link in this email.

A few tips...

Always ensure that your child receives quality care by taking the time to investigate the provider and by asking for references! We simply cannot verify the claims of every daycare provider.
Updates
We expect providers to keep their listing and available openings up-to-date. However, to prevent oversights, openings expire after 45 days.
