I have a very basic potty training policy. They must be able to do most of the work themselves(I help with handwashing), tell me they need to go and be accident free here for 2 weeks before they can come in underwear.
While I do agree that for most children, under 2 seems to be too early to start. However, I do know children who were potty trained at or before they were 2. Normally I do it case by case here but starting Monday I will have 2-2.5 year olds, 2-2 year olds and an 18 month old (2 are part time). Only one 2.5 year old is fully potty trained and she has been for quite some time. I kept her in diapers at naptime for longer than she needed but only because I had diapers to use up and I didn't have her out of the playpen yet. Starting in mid-late February I am going to be introducing the potty to the other 3 oldest. We will start by talking about the potty, sitting on it with clothes on, reading potty books etc. The 18 month old will be included when he's here but it won't be aimed at him. The 2-2 year olds moms have said both children are interested in the potty and they will be wanting to start training soon. I think one 2 year old will be ready but the other 2 year old and 2.5 year old don't seem to be there yet but that is fine. I find it easier when there is more than one training so I will see how it goes....who knows, they may surprise me!! I'm hoping that come March, at least 1 or 2 of them will be ready to start going on the potty. It's been so cold here that we hardly get outside so it's a perfect time to start training and then hopefully come summer we can be an almost all fully potty trained daycare!![]()
