Tax reciept, what would you do

so I have a school ager who comes sometimes b and a and then I have the sibling who is here everyday.

the parents pay me in one large sum every other week.

but on the tax reciept they want me to seperate how much one child is and how much the other child is. so it would be 2 tax reciepts.

its a headache for me, because then I have to make sure it all balances out, what would you do and is it allowed on taxes to do this.

I would do it if a parent asked but I have never done separate receipts for families with multiple children in my care. I don't even write the child's name on the receipt. I haven't had any issues at all.

I think there may be some possible issues that the parents would run into if they were audited. I had a family of siblings who were audited and they were requested to supply receipts for each individual child. If other providers haven't run into any issues, I would hazard a guess that it is simply because the parent has not been audited. Also anyone can be audited without every aspect of their return being put under the spotlight.

As far as more work is concerned, I can't understand why!?? If both siblings were coming same days, same hours its simply a case of 50% unless there were sick days when one came and not the other and an extra minute to substitute the name change and dollar amount. In your case momofnerds, you would have to keep track of "daycare days" per child for your own tax claim anyway so surely you have kept a record of the b&a childs attendance and also the full timer seperatly. You would need to do this in order to work out accurately for your tax return. I have cared for lots of siblings and have always given separate receipts and put their names on it and really, its as simple as an extra 10 minutes of work. As long as my record keeping, weekly, monthly and annually is well done, then its a few minutes of clicking on the trusty calculator and hey presto its done and its a synch. Now when I didn't keep good records of attendance, then it was a much more gruelling task.

Yes, you have to do a receipt for each child. Another receipt is no big deal and if YOU get audited it is necessary to have individual tallies for each child.

I have always given one receipt but according to CRA we have to give receipt for each child. So this year I broke it down in my payment book and wrote each childs name on the payday. It is easy just do it when you get paid so you don't forget if so and so was there for a full day due to snow/pd day etc.
start keeping track of when the b/a child is there by putting a star or check mark on your calendar. This helps you for taxes too and he can be claimed for snack amount.

Good to know!! I have had a couple siblings in care but they were just for a few days here and there when their Y program was closed or didn't have room for them. I never gave 2 receipts. I have a mom who is pregnant and wanting to send both children here so I will have to remember to give 2 receipts!!

I learned that just recently as well. The CRA website is pretty clear about what they want on the receipt, so this year my spreadsheet adds up the total amount paid for each child.
