As DCG whines and cries, and dad folds her into a big hug "Poor princess, I'm sorry I left you here."
I said "OH??? Maybe that isn't the message you want to give her..."

I should mention that they will also say "thanks for looking after xxx" or tell xxx to tell me "thanks for watching me today"....they aren't using the word babysitter in a demeaning way

5 Little Monkeys - I got what you mean and why you are okay with it. It makes sense in the scheme of things that it would be sweating the small stuff (since the family sounds wonderful otherwise.)

When I was telling the parent about a rough day behaviour-wise, and she says, "Yeah, I guess the Tylenol is starting to wear off by this point" Are you kidding me????

Starting to feel at home...
How about, "oh yeah, his older brother had lice on the weekend and then we found some in xxx's hair last night, but don't worry, we gave him the special shampoo last night." This on a Tuesday after the child had been at my house all day on Monday. WTF??! Freak out!

Starting to feel at home...
My all time favorite was when I let the Mom know that her son kicked at me she said "yeah he does that" guess he's doing that in another daycare now. Best decision I ever made

One of my 13 month old daycare kids got a bump on his forehead this week. He was playing peek a boo around the corner and loved it when we pretended to catch him. He was having a great time and slipped during his getaway and landed forehead first.
I felt bad, apologized to mom and explained what happened and she said it was no issue because he seems to bump his head a lot even at home.
Then...the next night pick up she greets her son and says "And No bruises today" in a joking way/declaration.
She probably meant it to be funny but I didn't like it because it almost seems like it was still on her mind and holding it against me.
I hate injuries, I hate telling the parents about them but I also think falls will happen to every toddler.

This ones for morning drop off and it drives me nuts "she didn't want to come here today at all" or "we asked her if she wanted to go to daycare today..she said no" why even tell me this? Also this is the same DKG that never wants to leave at the end of the day..

That's one of the questions you don't ask a kid, as it implies that they have a choice in the matter, which they do not. It's not fair to the kid, as they will assume that they get to say home if they say no, and it's not fair to you to dump an upset child first thing in the morning.
Also just rude, would you say "yeah I was really hoping she'd stay home today" when they came for drop off?
