I have found that the parents who make comments like this are the ones who feel guilty for working and leaving them with a dcp. It makes them feel better to "think" that their child only has fun with them. It's not fair to the child or dcp though! Obviously a child would prefer to be with their parents but there is nothing wrong with having to go to work and allowing your child to develop relationships with others.

Honestly, depending on the parent, I would probably respond with a "Charming!" in my lovely English accent lmao I have had a little guy 2 1/2 say he doesn't want to come in and stand at the door in a huff. I just responded with a "tough, this isn't a choice, so come in please", and I took him by his hand and gently brought him inside. Its an attention thing that I know better than to buy into and his mother hasn't said anything in response to this but if any parent did, I'd politly tell them that they would be doing both of themselves a favour by discouraging the notion that this is even a choice. Some people just don't get it......

I usually just let it roll off my back and laugh inside but if a parent says it too often or with a snotty attitude I will say something like " oh suzy, you have so much fun here with jack and jill!! You wouldn't want to stay home and miss out on all the fun would you?" It usually works every time and the child says bye to mom and runs to find her friends.
I have had a few kids who refuse to go home at the end of the day, even after the parent say's "ok, I'm leaving. You will have to stay here." For some parents, it hurts to know that after 8+ hours away from mom/dad, their child would rather stay with their dcp instead of rushing into their arms, begging to get away from the dcp LOL Of course it's a good sign that your child loves their dc but at the same time, I can see why some parents are hurt by this.

I had a new one last night!
Dcb has been very defiant lately, was communicated with parents, had a good day yesterday so I told dcd. His response was
Dcd - "oh good!"
(To dcb) "because you know what happens when you say no, right? (Dcb doesn't respond) right?"
(To me) "he gets tickled"
Oh, thanks, that explains why he says it All. The. Time.

Ha ha, I have a mom who will tickle her daughter as well when she is being cranky. So not the reaction she would get from me if that was my child! lol

The worst for me was a phone call pretty much at pick-up time or just after stating they would be late as they were at KFC ordering food. Meanwhile we had also ordered food and it had arrived about 5 min before the parents were usually here and was getting cold. So I kindly let them know that next time they want to order supper, they need to come and pick up their daughter first. I have just under an 11 hr day with her and my kids were hungry.
