Every time she says "Don't worry - I'm not leaving you here" I feel like saying something.

Like - what the heck is that supposed to mean? If daycare and a staying with me is so horrible then why did you choose this daycare?

Ugh. And the baby is crying about getting dressed to leave - not about staying.

It infuriates me each time I hear it . I smile but inwardly I am seething. It's a total Unikitty moment (if you've seen the lego movie that reference will make sense.) lol

It is annoying though how these parents can't just pick up their child and get them dressed!! I will sometimes say "Oh xxx, you can get yourself dressed nicely. Show mommy!" Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It's amazing the change in some children when their parents how up haha. I have one dc grandma who tells me all the time that she loves that her granddaughter never wants to leave but I can see that sometimes the dck is a brat to grandma and I feel bad for her. She is an angel here all day tho!

I also love when they say "thank you" at the end of the day. I have one family who is great at everything but they always say "thanks for babysitting" and it drives me crazy LOL but I guess it would be weird to say "thanks for being a good dcp" or "thanks for daycaring" everyday haha.
Ouch ! That would kill me. I cringe at that word.
I think I would find a way to jokingly say something back each time to hint that I am not the babysitter.... I.e...."I don't think anyone has called me a babysitter since I was 16."

I appreciate the Thank you's and when parents try to teach their kids to say thank you at the end of the day but that babysitter bit would probably drive me up the wall day by day. lol

Aw man, and here I was thinking "worst pick up lines' like a creepy guy at a bar. Lol
"Hey baby do you have a mirror in your pants? Because I can see myself in them' haha

Back to topic. I hear some dumb things come out of parents mouths and pick up time.
Like when a child was acting up at pick up time and mom wasn't taking action, I put her on a time out. Mom said 'hurry up or you are going to make us late for your sister's ballet' I said 'well she can leave when time out is done, this is important." Mom got kind of embarrassed but the child has been better at pick ups lately.

I have had a mom ask her son why he always acts up when she picks him up. I always come back with Its a good sign when they don't want to go home from having so much fun. then I tell the child don't worry you will be back again tomorrow and play with your friends.

I have had to put a child in timeout for acting up at pick up time. The funniest thing is a few days later when boy was misbehaving again at pick up mom told him to behave before I put him in time out! I felt like saying - what is wrong with you - discipline your own child when you are here.

I'm not good on my feet. She said it in such a brazen way that it seemed reasonable until she left and I actually thought about it. It also made her a few minutes late, btw.

Lol !!! This post made me laugh !!!! There's nothing new under the sun is there ??
I grit my teeth at the babysitter comment , sure !! Exactly like that !!! I have had the 'I will leave you here ' comment too , it does make you feel as though they feel it to be a punishment !!
I wonder if our job of nurturing these little people who will one day be deciding our future will ever get the respect it deserves ??

If they were even the littlest bit annoying at anything else, I would consider saying something. However, they are never late for pickups, never late with payment and never need reminders of what they owe, always keep child home when sick, send in treats often, always polite and friendly, always let me know well ahead of time if someone else is going to be doing drop off or pick ups, have followed every policy and rule, have a fantastic kid. They are the best family I have so getting picky over being thanked as a babysitter seems petty LOL

Now had one of my past families (who made me go WTF?? daily) said this, I likely would have told them that I am NOT a babysitter haha. It really does depend on who you are and how you say it!!
