    Insurance visit

Anyone else had their home insurance company come tour the house and daycare after adding daycare insurance on?

Ours came out today did a full house tour. My husband was home to tour him around. He came down and inspected the daycare, asked my qualifications, how many kids, their ages what ages I was willing to take, what areas of the house the kids use etc.

When they called to set up the appointment my husband called our broker to see what was up. She said they do come out to large houses and to home daycares (we are both).

I didn't mind in the least but found it interesting. I assume should the daycare be sketchy they wouldn't insure it...or would up the fees.

Is this common for others too? Wonder if our insurance costs will go up!!

We did have a guy come out to inspect when we switched companies a couple of months ago. He asked a few questions and did the tour. It actually worked on our favour though as our payments went down $4 per month.

We had this as well, even with our first insurance company before the daycare. Each time they found something we had to fix so it is not always a good thing. I have a 100 yr old house so it makes sense.

They have to do home inspections to verify that the house is insurable for home daycare. One of the main thing they are looking for is that you don't have a pool. If you have a pool, you are not insurable as a home daycare at all and you will be cancelled and uninsurable if you lied and told them you didn't have a pool.

Mine never came to inspect the daycare. They did ask how many I had and if we had a pool. I guess it depends on the provider? It does make sense though.

I have an in-ground pool and had no problem getting insurance. No visit was required.
