    Silly late excuses?

So DCD picks up dcb every so often, but is late almost every time he does. I've never changed a late fee, but after a day from hell, I decided his luck had ran out. It was only 8 minutes past closing, but it's up from 5 minutes here and there a few months ago, and that was up from 2 every so often when he started.

When he showed up he tells me he's late because he poked himself in the eye with his glasses when he put them on... Really? I've don't that, yes it hurts, but really? It took you 8 minutes to get through the pain?

I'm more insulted about his excuse than I was about him being late.

That's a new one. Poked eye. I had one dcm in the past that used to give me such flimsy excuses as to why she was often 10/15 min late. The best one and the one my dh and I still laugh about is how she lost her car at the shopping mall after work. Could not remember where she parked it. So afterwards it hit me...."why is she shopping at the mall so close to pick up and not just getting her daughter and then go shopping" it irked me. She was 25 min late. Next day she had a late fee notice in her child's folder for $25 dollars. Her shopping trip at the mall cost her more than she anticipated! She wasn't late after that!

I had a daycare dad the same way. Most of the time he did not have an excuse, it was just "I cant just stop working on a roof and leave" Pssssh. Then maybe I cant care for your child any longer.

His last excuse was that he went to unlock his car door and dropped his keys in the snow and could not find them.

I'd have more respect for the parent who was honest and said they planned poorly or didn't keep a close enough eye on the time or didn't give themselves enough time. That I could totally deal with. God forbid an adult should take ownership of their mistakes, apologize and take steps to prevent it from happening again. Let's just do the very thing we raise our children not to do...lie.

Right? His mom came in this morning and wanted to "check what time I had" and compare with her phone. He was late, I charged a late fee. Get over it.

This one would kill me too. Having back up care and everything aside, what a snarky response. Because his job is oh so much more important than yours?

That's just wrong. Take some responsibility!
