I had a daycare dad the same way. Most of the time he did not have an excuse, it was just "I cant just stop working on a roof and leave" Pssssh. Then maybe I cant care for your child.
This one would kill me too. Having back up care and everything aside, what a snarky response. Because his job is oh so much more important than yours?

I know right?! About 15 minutes after that lovely remark, I had sent out a mass email basically stating that there is no excuse for late pick ups and doing so pretty much results in termination.
Of course, I am not that crazy, I understand that there are times where pick up will be late (weather, traffic ect), but BE HONEST. Your job is not an excuse to keep my job open later and interfere with my family time.
