You are a good mom who wisely did not want your son to see you in full reaction to the trauma of having lost him for a few minutes.
I would suggest you slowly get back on course with your exercise and healthy eating regiment. Your reaction wanting to use food and alcohol to soothe yourself in normal. The fact that you didn't get take out and have devised another plan to curb your drinking is great. Have you ever thought of talking to someone professionally who can help you deal with your anxiety?
I have an anxiety as well. I can not drive on highways since my daughter was a toddler. Where I live the highways are horrible and I envision all kinds of horrible things happening when I am on the highway. I am a terrible passenger!
Praise yourself for not succumbing to downing that big bottle of wine and hitting the drive through.
Thank you for sharing
I am in treatment currently. I am involved in trauma therapy and boy have I ever come a long way. Sometimes things get worse before they get better though. As I have become more conscious of myself and everything that is jiggling around in my head, my anxiety has become a problem. Honestly, it's only been the last year or so that this has been a "generalized" anxiety whereas prior to that it was very rare and specific circumstances that I would feel a slight anxiety. I have major trust issues which stem from my past and although I understand it now, I'm still not able to overcome it. I am a work in progress. I purchased a book and cd about mindfulness a couple of weeks ago which I intend to start working through which deals with mindfulness in all areas of life from thought processes, eating habits etc etc and I am optimistic that this will help me.
I am so thankful to be able to speak freely on this forum. Most people deal with some form or mental health issue quietly and painfully in secret. It is still a major taboo subject and even I don't open up to many people about things although that is changing. Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. I will be continuing to make healthy food choices and exercise which I know are an important part of my recovery.

I totally commend you for speaking out....my 19 yr old daughter has a mental illness and I've struggled with dealing with her since a young age. I love how mental illness is becoming less stigmatized, Clara Hughes is riding across Canada to spread awareness. Thank you so much for opening up to us, I truly appreciate it.

Thanks for sharing this. I am trying very hard to talk to my kids about depression and mental illness at an appropriate level to encourage a good attitude about the subject and also to reinforce that when they do see me in certain ways that they know it is not their fault and that while I am ill, I am still the same person worthy of as much love and compassion as every other person on this planet. Its difficult but perhaps they will become better people as a result of some of my misfortune. However hard things are, I do think my toughest times have armed me with my strongest tools. They make me a better person for sure.

I just wanted to share my smoothie recipe with everyone it jam packed with healthy stuff. I have this everyday either for breakfast or lunch.
1/2 cup of unsweetened almond or coconut milk
1/3 cup of no fat yogurt ( I use activia yogurt as it has my daily probiotics)
1 tsp of vanilla extract
1 tsp of maca powder
1 tbsp of cacao powder
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
1tbsp of coconut oil
1 tsp of flaxseed oil
A handful of baby spinach
1 cup of frozen berries ( I use strawberry and blueberry blend)
And lastly 1 scoop of protein powder
The best time to drink this smoothie is within 1/2 hr after working out.
I hope you enjoy, let me know what you think if you try it.

My daughter is a smoothie fiend.....absolutely would live off them if I let her. Can I just recommend a much better source of probiotic as activia is not good...full of artificial stuff and low quality probiotics that probably don't even make it where they need to. Kefir...comes in different flavours and organic too....relatively inexpensive when you figure that you only need a tbsp or two to have more than the rda. None of the nasty stuff in it either.
This is my daughters typical smoothie recipe
2tbsp Kefir
coconut water
frozen berries
raw local honey..1tbsp...good to sweeten and also prevents seasonal allergies if it is local
banana
scoop of vega one....Natural protein powder and greens in one...free of gmo, soy, corn, dairy, gluten
vega oil which is a great omega 3-6-9 and dha oil- couple of drops
1/4 avocado
She will sometimes add cacoa powder or nibs
She also likes to add collards or kale...she is always super happy with herself that she will consume a vegetable she hates in a smoothie.
I invested in a vitamix last summer so no matter what I put in, it will come out blended completely smooth. I can not tolerate smoothies or juices. I hate the texture and I also don't have a sweet tooth. I am one of those weird people who dislikes ice cream too lolol

Thanks, I will defiantly try out the kefir. I like to add yogurt in my smoothie as it makes it more thicker. I try to stay away from bananas as they are a higher carb fruit. The protein powder I use is also GMO, soy, dairy and gluten free as well it's a brand called kaizen it's also organic and the container it comes in is biodegradable.

I might check out that brand thanks for sharing. I love that her powder is a complete including greens. She gets above and beyond her rda of greens in smoothie form per day. She has a pint for breakfast and refrigerates the rest for home time at which point she will give it a 5 second whizz and its ready to go. The kefir in a bottle is thicker than the tub I find. I ideally want her smoothies dairy free but the probiotic benefits of the kefir dramatically outweigh the negatives of the dairy and she will only add 1/2 to 1 banana to the whole thing which makes about 2 pints.

I commend you, bright sparks! I also have anxiety issues and they really make life hard at times. You did really well thinking outside the situation, you caught yourself before spiraling out of control. Good for you! I hope the mindfulness cd helps. For me, I find that when I'm in the middle of an anxiety attack I pray. I also try and remember that it's my stupid body fighting me and it will be over soon lol. But let me tell you if my kid was missing for even a minute I would be in a different state... That's terrifying. I'm glad it turned out ok and that you are recovering. You are a great mom!
Also I'm totally going to buy some kefir lol....

Starting to feel at home...
I love the Vega products... The creator of those products is from BC and has written some great books on nutrition. He is a triathlete and is a vegan! So he has some excellent methods for getting a well balanced diet while getting a lot of physical exercise. I'm a meat lover so it's not for me but his books have excellent information.

I love vega products too. No funky ingredients either. I buy the vega one powder for my daughters smoothies, which is a protein and greens powder in one and I buy the vega one bars too which include the same amount of "stuff" as the powder for my husband when he is rushing out the door early in the morning. I wanted a vegan product for sure and encourage my son to have it too as he is vegetarian but he only has a smoothie occasionally whereas my daughter loves the stuff and would drink it constantly if I let her
