Do you ever worry about liability?
I have had 2 injuries in one week and it stresses me out. Neither were my fault at all but it still worries me.
1) Boy was running at the school ground on the tarmac (I wouldn't let them go to the playground or the field as it was sheer ice) and he fell and got a huge goose egg on his head.
2) Today DCG was getting up from the kids table and fell and on the way down she hit her forehead and nose on the table. Her nose started bleeding like crazy. This little girl has had a few forehead bumps the yr she has been with me (this was maybe #4 or 5).
It stresses me out. The parents were OK in both situations but you never know. Plus what if something major were to happen like in these news stories. Accidents happen and kids hurt themselves but there is only so much I can do to prevent injuries sometimes (unless I just sat them in front of the TV, then they wouldn't hurt themselves!)

Starting to feel at home...
I think everyone worries to a certain degree, it's normal I think especially when you read the news. You can't bubble wrap them, they will all eventually get hurt, as they do at home. But i understand what you mean because they're not our kids, I always worry...but I'm also a worry bug lol

I don't worry so much about the liability part of it as I have insurance that would cover me but I do worry that the parents would think I wasn't doing my job and blame me. (not that it's our fault!! kids have accidents) I (knock on wood) have never had a major accident in my home yet but I'm sure it will come one day!
My other half on the other hand worries that a parent would sue us if something happened. He is pretty anal about things so he always fixes broken things asap, makes sure the walkway is always cleared, ice melt is out etc.

I don't worry about it, I have insurance and make sure my home is safe. Accidents happen and I try not to worry about things beyond my control. I always have parents sign an accident report if anything does happen.
I have had some pretty good accidents with the kids in my care, just last week my 4 year old dcb did a belly flop off the top of a snow hill and landed on his face. He was all scraped up and it looked aweful, but it was an accident and it isn't going to keep me from letting the kids enjoy the best parts of winter play. I just make sure the safety rules are clear for the kids to make sure it doesn't happen again (this dcb loves to fall down on purpose).

Inbox me your email address and I will send you mine. I have a pretty thorough one as I had a bad incident in the new year and didn't just want a basic record but an in depth record

Acorns: I don't let children as young as 16 months climb on the play structure because I can't be right there with them while watching everyone. Usually be 18 months or so I let them go up the small structures depending on their personality (whether they are cautious or totally oblivious to risk). The younger ones have to play in the sand with toys until I allow them to climb.
And yes, Torontokids...I actually worry about this all the time....but I am a worrier! I have never had anything major happen, just the usual bumps and bruises, but i think about it all the time! I have my daycare as safe as possible and I am always on the look-out for anything that could pose a danger, I teach the kids safety rules, etc...but I always feel like anything is possible with kids! I have insurance too...but I know my career as a daycare provider would be over if anything serious should happen and it got in the news or something. Even though I am very careful, I do think about this sometimes! Plus, I think of how horrible I would feel But, I also think that because I am a worrier, I probably take less risks than some...so the likelihood is less that one of my dck's will be seriously injured. Maybe you are in the same boat if it makes you feel any better!
