Rate for babysitter?
I have a teenaged son who has just started babysitting for one of my daycare families and since I have been lucky enough never to have to hire a babysitter for my kids, I don't know what the going rate is. Does anyone know what the norm is for teenaged babysitters (we live in Ontario if it makes a difference) ? Thanks for your help!

Expansive...
In Kemptville, I know the rate is between $10-12/hour!!!! Nuts - I know! Don't know about Ottawa, but can find out for you from my siblings in Barrhaven if you wish?

Euphoric !
I have a sitter here in Toronto who charges me $10 an hour for my three kids, but I think she charges $12 for younger ones (babies and toddlers).

In Kingston, a 14 yo daughter of a friend of mine charges $5 per hour to watch my 16 month old son. I've used her a handful of times.
I once looked for a more mature student and was quoted $12 per hour!!
I still havent paid that since I don't get out much!!

Starting to feel at home...
In BC (Vancouver area) the rates vary from $10-$12 per hour and then after midnight it is 1.5 X.
($15-$18)

So it doesn't seem to matter how many kids? It's just a flat hourly rate?
I am curious, as we have also never needed to hire anyone, thankfully. But I am sure the day will come, because my mom is getting a little older and I think 4 kids may be a bit much for her. Although the 2 oldest are fairly self-sufficient now....

Wow... it seems like there is huge variation! Right now my son is being paid $20 for three hours and the child is awake and just under two, so it isn`t easy work. It seems a bit low to me, so I am trying to figure out if he should ask for more.

My babysitter charges $8 an hour. I pay her ten if the little one is awake but love the eight if little one is asleep and the babysitter is just watching T.V.
I think ten is fair for one and add two bucks an hour per child

I've so wanted to start a 'kid swap' idea in our neighbourhood...ie: You take ours for an evening, we take yours...say, once every 2 weeks? This way, you get a date night minus the babysitters fee one time and playmates for the kids the next....so hard though to get it up and going though....we are new to the neighbourhood...plus ...is it fair if one family has one extra child (I personally wouldn't care), or, do we settle on prearranged times, or a sleepover? Anyone do this?
Children are great imitators.
So give them something great to imitate.

My daughter is 18 and she makes $10 to $20 an hour. She takes one of my daycare babes home at 5 when I close cause Mom works till five and my DD feeds her dinner and is usually there about a hour. They pay her $100 a week.
