    Measles Info

Just an FYI that I received information for parents from the Manitoba Government Public Health Division (I'm licensed, so receive this stuff) about Measles. There has been 2 confirmed cases in Manitoba and 200 cases in B.C. so far this year, as well as some in other provinces as well. Parents are urged to immunize in order to protect their children from this very contagious disease.

The symptoms are: fever of 38.3C or higher, cough with runny nose or red eyes, and a red splotchy rash that appears 3-7 days after the fever starts. The rash begins on the face and spreads down the body.

If a child in your care or someone within a daycare child's family has all these symptoms the daycare child must be kept home and they must see a doctor (must call first). If the child has been exposed to measles they must stay away from school and/or daycare facility for up to three weeks to prevent the spread of infection.

I have been asked to share this info with parents, so I thought I would share it with all of you as well. Maybe a good idea to pass it on to your daycare families too. Measles was almost non existent in Canada, but is on the rise again due to lower numbers of vaccinated people.

Thanks for the heads up! Do you happen to have a link or the actual info you received? I'd like to print off and give to my parents but if you don't have it, I will just print it off of google

Is this the same info you received? http://news.gov.mb.ca/news/index.htm...ve=&item=30182

I thought about sending it to my daycare parents too, but haven't so far. I started thinking that each of them teach elementary school, so they probably all read it at school already. Should I send them a copy anyways? Maybe I should just post a copy near the sign in sheet?

pretty much, but is missing that the child would have to stay home up to 3 weeks if they have it.

I posted my info at my entrance. Probably would be good to mention anyway, even if you think they know.

A few tips...

Always ensure that your child receives quality care by taking the time to investigate the provider and by asking for references! We simply cannot verify the claims of every daycare provider.
Updates
We expect providers to keep their listing and available openings up-to-date. However, to prevent oversights, openings expire after 45 days.
