Starting to feel at home...
Fair Pay?
Hi everyone! I am back from my 'mat leave'. My whole 2 weeks off!
Well, I have been back for 2 weeks now, but just have been reading posts rather then posting. While I was off, my school walker told me that she will no longer be walking my b/a school kids to and from school, in hopes to find a full time job.
So here I go again, searching for a walker. My question is, for the 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes after school, what do you all think is a fair rate to pay?

I'm not sure what the going rate is but I would be paying for their time PLUS the convenience of them doing it for me. It would also have to be enough for them to commit to doing it every day. $10 a day? So $100/bi-weekly....seems like pretty easy extra cash to me but maybe it's too low?

Would you consider cutting out the school agers and just having younger children and get that whole headache gone? Just wondering if that would be an option for you.

$10 a day seems really low to me. But I've never done this type of job. That would only be $5 for the am and $5 for the pm walk. It's not a long walk but it is a lot more time then the walk itself as I'd have to get myself there and back twice in a day...and it would just really break up my day.
I don't do before/after care and never would due to the hassle (and many other factors). But, is it worth it if you have to pay a second person...are you profiting after the helped expense and food and crafts/supplies etc?

That's a good point lee bee. I was just thinking $10 for 30 minutes but if it's 15 mins there and 15 back than the person is spending an hour doing this. I would think $20 maybe? What is min wage where you are?

Thanks ladies! Let me clarify, the current walker, I am paying $200 a month. Which works out to be $10/day. However, she is already walking to get her own kids, so it is not a huge interference to her. Plus her house is directly across from mine.
That is why I was curious how much is fair for someone whom may need to go out of their way. I believe min wage here was just raised to $11, from $10.25.
I am slowly trying to wean out my b/a school children, however, when I relocated to this town, I had to start fresh in terms of daycare and b/a was the huge demand, so that is what I went with.
