I do like 33 Daisies as in the first time through the story it is my turn to talk. Then we go back and look at the book - if it is rhyme book I try to get them to fill in the blanks or guess what is on the next page or ask a do you think ..... etc. Then the third time I go to a specific page in the book and we talk about that page and that becomes the springboard for whatever we are going to do next. Our theme of the day is then taken from the book but not always the theme of the book. It could be about the ladybug that is on the leaf even though the book is about a different topic. We then put the book away and proceed with activities - song, fingerplay, feltboard rhymes, then a craft, game or some other activity based on that page. This is how I bring in repetition while not having to read the same story all the time to get there. It gives us a way to read and use a story - get most of them from the scholastic book orders - that is an ok story but doesn't lend itself to a theme.
