Ratios with bill 10 new rules

Hey. Just want to her ppls opinions. I was talking to a fellow daycare provider this afternoon and she said she took on a new child for the fall. But she will be over ratios for like an hr a day. In the am she'll have 6 from 7 till 8 when one leaves for school. Then again when he comes home at 330 till 4 when one leaves. He'll never need school holidays or summer care as there other arrangements. But would u risk this with the new rules coming? Obviously she'll never been seen the bus comes to her door. So that hr and half shell b in the house. What do u think???

I wouldn't. She's telling you about it - who else is she telling?? All she needs is one person to place a call, and a knock on her door between those times will cost her everything.

Plus, what happens when the parent that picks up at 4 is late? Or the bus kid gets dropped off and then the busses get cancelled for bad weather and it takes mom or dad another hour to come back to get him? Also, what about her other clients? As a responsible provider, she should be educating her clients about this Bill and how it will affect ratios. The last parent to drop off is bound to notice at some point that their kid makes 6, therefore putting her over in numbers for that time.

Bottom line, I would never be comfortable breaking the law. IF she does get inspected - and if she's that open about going over in ratio, it can happen super-easily - the inspector won't care that it's only for an hour and a half. Over is over, and she'll be done. I couldn't risk it.

Nope. I can understand if this was a one time thing out of her control but if she is willingly and knowingly doing this every day then she is doing it illegally, with the intention of breaking the law. Doesn't matter how many hours in a day she is over ratio...she is purposely breaking the law.

In BC we have to watch our numbers all the time as You never know when the inspector will turn up and they are allowed to come in and check everything and count how many children are at the daycare at all times, plus the parents can report you if you are over your limit of children

Ya what I was thinking. But so silly for just an hr and half hey. Hopefully she doesn't tell anyone else. She is a good provider so it would suck if she got caught. Maybe I'll warn her.

Not to mention, she has ZERO insurance for any of the kids because she voids her insurance policy going over the 5! Silly woman!!

I'm not 100% sure but I think that because the law is 5 kids (if it is where you live) it trumps the insurance coverage for 6. By having 6 kids, you are illegal and therefore the insurance is void. At least that is how I understand it...I might be wrong!

Where are you located babydom? In Ontario, there are no insurance companies that offer a daycare ryder above 5 daycare children because they would be endorsing illegal daycare operations. Maybe 5 plus your own would up the number of children covered, but not daycare children. I fear you have been misinformed...do you have something in writing that explicitly says you are covered for 6 daycare children? What is the insurance company you use?

If I were you I would warn her as it's not worth the money for the extra child before school if she has to pay the fee, then let her decide
