For those who only have teachers kids, etc. when do you find most begin looking for care? I have one more spot I'd like to fill and hoping come June, teachers start looking (its been slow!) Thx.

Teachers mat leave ends all year round just like other professions. I have lots of teachers and they tend to look for care when their mat leave ends. Only time teachers look over summer for September is if that is when their mat leave ends or if they moved house over summer, just like everyone else who changes carer. They not tend to seek new carer based on moving schools but instead on their home location.
There not usually a big influx of interest over summer from teachers. They is lot of interest from parent seeking before after school care esp if in younger grades because lot of parent delay moving until Summer months so not to disrupt school life. Also parents new to school area or whose children are just start school looking for before and after school care.

The group you will get looking over the summer are the ones not willing to pay anything for the summer while they are off and instead just find a new provider for the following school year so expect to sign them to a Sept to June contract.

Although this appears logical, it has not been my experience.

I have 3 teachers kids now. I've normally had a least one parent a teacher always. My client pay for care over summer, March Break, Christmas and they can attend if they want. Sometimes they attend x days a week over summer, sometimes they have some week off and some week here. Sometime they have shorter day in summer with later drop and earlier pick up. I have NEVER had a teacher leave over summer to avoid fees but I explain up front, at interview, that if they want a place here, then they pay year round.

The only time I did have someone leave in mid May and hope to come back in Sept was when one parent in school not a teacher and since they not be honest about that when they joined in Jan., I would not have had them back even if the spot had still been open.

Many teachers manage to coincide return to work with the start of semesters and take the extra week off unpaid or come back a week early as needed so Sept, Jan, March/April will be when they are looking most often and now the least because they can make other arrangements including spouse using vacation days to get through to the end of the school year then start for Sept.
