Not sure what you mean by rules, most home daycare providers make their own policies. My families pay half fees for their vacation time (if they take vacation outside of mine) provided they give me two weeks notice, if not then they pay full fees. I take 4 weeks per year and the parents are notified in Jan when those weeks are. My vacation time is unpaid.

    There are no rules.

Day care providers are a bit of odd situation. We self-employed people, so not covered by labour standards which determine the basic rights (for people who have employees) are protected. But, we are only occupation, where provincial day care regs, limit number of customers (children) we can have.

Each provider have her own contract. It should say, hours of opening, what happens if she takes vacation and if she is to be paid, what happens on stat days and if she is closed and if she is paid. Your obligations and her obligations. When you find a provider, you have to decide if her policy which suit you or not. They not usually negotiable. Like any other business, when you sign contract and agree to terms and condition in it, both sides are obligated to stick to it.

So, what does your contract say?

For myself I don't charge when I close. I do however charge full rate for all stats.

If I get one month notice I take $5 off per day for the child's holidays (still pays for my time but no charge for food I don't have to supply). If I don't get the one month notice of their holiday time I charge full rate.

I charge full rate for the child's holidays and all stats. I take 4 weeks off, and some is paid, and some is not. You'll have to see what the norm is for your area, as not all areas tolerate paying for stats/provider's vacation etc.

    For me:-

Parent pay for stat if on their scheduled day. I not charge for the stat if it not their regular day.
Parent pay 100% fees if they don't attend for sick or vacation.
I have 10 paid day off and if I take more, anything over the 10 is unpaid.

The mean, parent pay same fees, every two week, regardless of attendance or if I am on vacation as long as I have not already had 10 days.

Parents pay for all stat days as long as they fall on regular daycare day. Aside from that it is quite simply, if I am open and available to provide care then the parents pays regardless of attendance. That is the same for sick days and vacation days.

If they take holidays and give notice, it's $10 less per day.

If I take holidays, no charge at all

Stat days I am closed and charge $10 less
