Landline phone

Are daycare providers required to have a landline phone? I want to get rid of mine to cut down on costs. A response from someone in Manitoba would be helpful. I have a cell phone and wondering if that is sufficient.

Are you licensed? I was told if your licensed you need a land line. I am not licensed and just have a call. I am located in Manitoba as well

I'm private in mb and cell only, not that that helps you lol

Landlines are becoming extinct so I'd be surprised if they're still a requirement but I really don't know

I am in the process of being licensed. Trying to cut costs. You're right, landlines are becoming extinct. More of a luxury in my opinion. Becoming too expensive to have. Cell phone are expensive enough without the added cost of a landline.

I have a landline, and I had it before I got licensed, so it wasn't an issue for me. I like long conversations better on a landline, and for a while my kids babysitter didn't have her own cell phone. She has one now, but sometimes doesn't bring it. So I like having a home phone.
However, my friend is licensed in a different town, same coordinator, and she only has a cell. No home phone. So it is possible to be licensed without a home phone.

I know it doesn't help the OP, but for me, it is required by law to have a landline.

Question, rather than worry about required or not, does it work in an emergency? If you called 911 on your cell phone, will they know where you are? Will the ambulance be able to get to you? Will your cell phone connect you to the proper 911 dispatch center? That is what is the most important, IMO.

Where I am, the 911 dispatchers, don't have a clue where anything or anyone is. This is true even with the landline, that has my address associated with it. I wouldn't trust just a cell phone, because I know, that even though I am a 4 minute drive from the hospital, they would still probably take 15-30 minutes to find me. That is if I get the right dispatch center. Depending on how the wind is blowing, literally, I could get dispatch from Ontario, and they don't have any way to connect me to the dispatch here. It is a mess.

I have landline because it cheaper than cell. I pay $85 a YEAR for unlimited text on cell but that only give me 100 anytime mins. My landline is how I speak with people and because it bundle in my internet, it cheaper to do that than have cellphone plan with speaking mins.

That's a good point kinder time but I prefer a cell as I can take wherever I go.(parks, mall, walks etc) I haven't had a landline in probably 10 years though lol. When I moved in with my husband, about 6 years ago, he didn't have a landline either (something to do with bad wires in the house?? I'm not sure exactly...just know he told me that it rarely worked and it was always hard to hear the other person. They tried to fix it but there's some reason it can't be??)

I never talk on the phone anymore so I would only get a landline again if it was a requirement

I'm not sure how it is here tbh, I've never had to use it
