    Name on tax receipts

My parents all pay by cheque. I have had one parent ask for the receipt to be issued in the other parent's name, even though the original parent(Dad) was the one who wrote the cheques. They are a married couple, so no issues of divided payments etc.
Is it legal to issue it in another person's name, even though a different person made the payments? Thanks!

I always write both parents name on my receipts. Either one can claim it as they will do their taxes together anyways.

I do the same as Mickyc. I put both the names of the parents so either parent can claim. Did both parents sign the contract?

On my contract there is a spot for them to fill in the name they want on their receipt. If they want that to change then they need to put it in writing. It doesn't matter who actually gives me the money.

I have actually only ever put the child's name!

    Something like:

Daycare receipt for care provided to John Smith

    By Wonder Wiper

Married couples often move expenses around at tax time to maximize their refunds/deductions etc. It doesn't matter who pays as long as only one person claims.

I put both parents name and the child's name on the receipt. It is up to the parents to decide which parent claims it. It can make a big difference for some families to have one parent claim it instead of the other.

Unless they are divorced then I see no reason to not put both names on the receipt regardless of who actually writes the cheques.

Mine are along the lines of

XX amount received from 'jane doe' and 'john doe' for childcare for 'baby doe' for the period of 'start date' through 'end date'.
Then has my name and info.

Regardless of who pays me, I put both names on the receipt. The only time I haven't is when I've had single moms.

I'm exactly like 5LM. Both names unless there's only one parent raising the child.

I too put both names on each receipt and the child's name, if they ask me to just write one parent's on it I do just one name as they know their taxes better
