....Just make sure you get in writing that it is 5 plus your own.
Agreed - I have had many peers whose policies stated 'up to 5 children' and they ASSUMED that meant 5 children plus their own in care only to find out it meant 5 in TOTAL when they called to inquire specifically -so had an issue occurred they would not have covered the expenses it was found that there were more than 5 children in attendance in the program when the incident occurred and therefore the policy was 'void'
I think people assume that your own children are not counted because would 'sue themselves' but we need to remember it is not just about being 'sued' the number of children is also about the 'risk statistics increasing' with the more children in care ... as well caps use are based on the 'best practice' viewed in the industry and since in Ontario for example 'licensed agency home childcare ratios are a 5:1 including your own ' most follow that however if your Home Office for the insurance company is in another province it might be LESS or MORE that are insured - or your children are counted or not counted and so forth ... definitely prudent to ASK for sure and to demand it 'in writing' in the policy notes!
Children construct their own intelligence. The adult must provide activities and context, but most of all must be able to listen. Children need proof that adults believe in them. Their three great desires are to be listened to, to understand, and to demonstrate that they are exactly what we expect."
