Unless you have registered the name with the government (get an Ontario Business Licence), I don't think you can do much.

As for any reports, you need the providers name, daycare name and address of daycare to look up if there have been any violations. So I wouldn't really worry about it.

You can talk to your licensing officer, if it will make you feel better.

Having more then one home daycare with the same name is more common they most realize.

    Hi Little Fish ,
I guess you are in BC and I say yes call your licensing Officer and see if there is a problem with the list of inspected daycare in the 2 cities and there may be a simple way of fixing it from their office once they know about it- they are there to help
    Good luck

Did you register your name? If you have registered your name you should contact the registry and let them know about the other business operating under the same name.

I have my name registered. A year ago there was another provider who decided to name her daycare almost identical to mine. She copied my add almost word for word. I contacted her and asked if she had been approved to use that name as mine was registered and very similar. She very quickly removed her ad and changed it and did something different.

I pay for the registering of my name and I expect others to as well. I don't want any confusion when it comes to my reputation and word of mouth. Definitely look into it

    thanks,
If your business name not registered, then you might be using the other persons business name. I'd sort this out quick before the other business seeks compensation from you for using their name and rep.

Yes definitely look into it. Unless you are using your first name (Micky's Daycare) then you need to have your business name registered. You submit the name to the Company's office then wait to be approved. Once approved then you have 30 days to register it. Once registered it is good for 3 years. Names cannot be too similar to others in the province or it will get denied and you have to pick a new name. It costs every time you attempt to reserve a name so do a google search to see if it's a similar name to someone else.

I think this change province to province. It not for 3 year everywhere.

A few tips...

Always ensure that your child receives quality care by taking the time to investigate the provider and by asking for references! We simply cannot verify the claims of every daycare provider.
