Dcb Pulls his own Hair Out

Hi all - a 2.5 yr old boy I've had in care for over a year has started pulling strands of his own hair out. It's at random times of the day; when all is going well and he'll just twirl his short hair near crown, and then pull a few strands right out. He has an older sibling who is 9 who I noticed has no eye lashes but I don't know if that's related. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has experienced this in their daycare? I told him "Ouchie, best not to pull your hair" but that didn't help.

Maybe a hat will work for him to get out of this habit, try a baseball hat etc also it helps you to notice if he takes it off

I had a little one who pulled out her eyelashes and her hair. She was diagnosed with trichotillomania, and later with OCD. It's often a sign of stress, so with two children in the same family with this tendency, I'd be worried about what's going on at home.

I've also cared for children who have severe anxiety and have no eyelashes. They too were diagnosed with OCD. It actually isn't always as a result of what's going on at home. It can also run in the family so if there is another sibling displaying similar behaviour, it may not be related to dad being in the hospital and more a genetics thing.
