What age do children go home alone?

Hi! I was just curious to see what those of you with older children consider as an appropriate age for children to be home alone after school. Obviously things like maturity and distance from school can affect this but I was just looking for a general idea of how long a parent can expect to require after school daycare! Isnt it leagally 12 years old? or thats what I always thought

My understanding is that there is no legal age limit. It is determined by the parents according to the maturity and responsibility of the child, always keeping in mind that the parents are responsible if anything happens. My oldest son took a "home alone" course when he was 10 and this is what we were told.
