Possibility of More Regulatory Changes in ON?

This was put out on FB this morning-
    ALERT!!!

"Changing provincial regulations so unlicensed home daycares are allowed to care for just THREE CHILDREN UNDER AGE 6, would be more incentive for them to become licensed" - Feb. 25/17
    - Marnie Flaherty, CEO Today's Family, HCCAO

The HCCAO has the ear of the Ministry of Education and was a significant contributor to the creation of the CCEYA's current regulations. After the devastating blow to childcare accessibility, they wish to go even further to force us into the crippled agency sector by way of further restrictions.

Marni Flaherty and various other Agency supporters have the full attention and influence over this Ontario Ministry of Education. Should the Liberals win the next provincial election, we can be sure of one thing - complete decimation of our sector and a childcare shortage that will reshape the presence of women in the workforce for years to come.

CICPO continues to work with allies within the Progressive Conservative Party as we strive for changes to the legislation. We will be initiating new campaigns to combat the efforts of the Liberal Government and Licensed sector. We are calling on all ICPs and Ontario families seeking care to join the Coalition of Independent Childcare Providers of Ontario on Facebook and sign up to our website.

The time to stand up and be heard is NOW in order to protect Ontario's most popular, diverse and affordable childcare option!

The leading agency Andrew Fleck did not fly as high.as they thought with their "ICP friendly package". So, I guess they want to pressure us more.

Marni Flaherty is CEO of Today's Family (agency) and head of HCCAO (pro-agency lobbyists). She is way up there in her sector, as is Martha Friendly (childcare activist) who is decidedly anti-ICP. This is absolutely bullying in at its purest all dressed up as 'what's best for children'. The image they continue to perpetuate is that we don't want licensing, shirk oversight, avoid following rules and offer substandard care. CICPO is making a concerted effort to change the image that has been painted for the public of our sector by the lobbyists. THIS is why I keep posting in here. This affects all of us, in Ontario, who want to continue to develop our careers, serve our families and understand that a new licensing model is of paramount importance. If we don't hit this hard, now, our sector has the very real potential of being wiped out. We are starting to gain momentum again, so I hope that all ICPs will get on board and drive this effort forward. We need all your clients on board too! And when you have to turn someone looking for childcare away (I know we're all turning them away in droves), try to involve them as well. We'll have our parent and ICP letter templates ready to send out this week (fingers crossed) which can be distributed to your families to fill in and send out to the Education Critic and MPPs (email addresses will be provided). Gila Martow (Education Critic) has said that parents' voices in this is crucial! Please don't hesitate to ask how you can get involved. There is no hyperbole here. We are at a critical point, with some great opportunities available to us!

As a side note, the original post has reached almost 13,000 people on FB alone! People are being made aware

It makes me feel really frustrated when they think that our sector isn't qualified.

We have in our sector providers who have further their education; how about independent Ece's, or teachers, or nurses, psychologists and the list can go on.

Whenever I've asked why they choose to work in a homedaycare their answer is "they love children" and second other institutions such centres and agencies do not pay fairly. Most of the income goes to the Directors or owners.

So, the MOE cannot ignore the fact that; our sector has qualifications but, we decided not to join the licensed sector because we do not want to geopardize the meaning of "nurture" and quality. We are open to show and present to them all our qualifications and all the safety measures we take.

A few tips...

If you visited or if you're using a childcare provider found on DaycareBear, do not hesitate to leave a review. This will most certainly help other parents!
