    Before / After Care Only

Is it possible to only do before / after care? Would I still be claiming expenses / writing contract / handbook / etc?

    Thanks!

Hi. It depends where do you leave. It is possible if you are in an area where there isn't offered the before and after school programs. Depending on that marked you could do the contracts and etc. If you think you will get long term clients.

Also, you must become familiar with the regulations (in Ontario is only allowed 5 children per household or six if you're licensed).

In regards of claiming expenses, I'm pretty sure you can do so if you run your program from your household and offer different activities to the kids ex. Arts, music, cooking activities, snacks, or other special programed events.

I would also suggest you to find out rates aplied to school ages in your area and then decide if this is going to work for you.

You should always have a contract. A contract is to protect you and your business. It doesn't matter if they are only there for one time for an hour, you still should have a contract. A hand book is also a very good idea. This lets parents know where you stand on your policies etc.

Yes you can still claim expenses. You also still have to claim all your income and give a receipt.

    Yes, always have a contract.
You can claim all of the regular expenses. You will have a reduced percentage to claim utilities/mortgage interest etc because your operating hours will be shorter than those operating for a full day. Your accountant can fill you in on the details.

It possible do before and after school care only. Demand will depend on if school or local organization also have it. Check own provincial regs for numbers and other requirement like insurance. I advice to get insurance even if not requirement because some insurance will void your own household policy if there is undisclosed business so any claim you make even if unrelated to day home can be declined if they not know about the day home.
Always have contract. You providing service and taking money for that so it not matter if all day or few hours, you need to have contact outlining fees, sickness policy, open hours, if care offered on school closed days like storm day or in-service day or if this not available. And yes, you claim your expenses. The percentage of shared expenses like heat and water will consider the reduced hours of service.
