    No Credentials Provider

I've been asked twice during interviews in the past what credentials I have in order to run my own daycare . Well, I have zero credentials; no ECE, no teachers cert, nothin'. Before I had children I managed offices for engineering firms. Then had my kids boom, boom, boom, and started looking after their JK friends for social practice for my own kids. It just kind of evolved over time and has become a successful home daycare which I love to do Successful meaning the kids are safe and happy, the parents are happy and I'm paying a few bills. I've also had families tell me i'm pretty much like a teacher (coming from teacher clients in past).

I'm thinking of taking some childcare courses so when I'm asked this again, we won't just hear
"cricket. cricket" in the room but honestly I feel like I could teach the courses at this point. Has anyone else had this question. Or are all u providers 'qualified' ?

    Never been asked.

I have been asked if I am a "real daycare" which after having just spent an evening going through my paperwork, space, policies, etc., did irritate me. My husband splutter with laughter from kitchen and said "Oh yeah - touch her arm if you want. No holograms here."

I've been asked some damn stupid things in the past.

You have a late collection fee, what time is considered late?
I close at 4.30pm. If you get here at 4.31pm then I am closed, you are late. Just like if you go to grocery store 1 min after closing you are too late.

You take children outside every day? What happens if it's raining?
    We all get wet.

Can we get our receipt weekly before payment?
You can get it weekly but I can't produce a document stating you have paid, before you have paid.

If you take a day off in the week, can we come on the weekend to make up for it?
You can indeed come on the weekend however the day home will not be open.

If my wife and I take a couple's vacation, will you keep our child overnight?
Unfortunately, this is a day care not an adoption service.

I think it really depends, I'm not sure we're you are but, you can also take workshops some give a participant certification, you can contact a close college and take the child development course once a week etc. There are also online courses.

I had the same thought years ago, I've been doing so well and I was going almost every night for worshops. And it helped me to bulk up my credentials section in my daycare profile and it looked better. All that theroical knowledge backed up with my experience sounded more appealing to prospective clients.

    Search.
