    How to expense food on tax form

    The tax office does not have an answer.
    A friend said $6 per day per child.
    Online here I read around $3 per day per child.

    I have receipts, but a certain amount per day would be easier.
    I am in Ontario.
    Anybody who would know this?

    Food is a day care cost which is not set per child or per day. It costs you, what it costs you. In the Northern Territories, food is insanely expensive. In Ontario, it's cheaper. You claim your actual costs but you need a receipt to prove the expense you've incurred.

    Thanks. I do have receipts, but I shop all together for family groceries as well (only have 2 dck). So I have to figure out how to calculate that, sigh.

    I always get separate receipts for daycare and home. I have a set menu, so daycare food is exclusively for daycare, and it’s not a portion of the food I’ve prepped for my family. Typically my monthly food costs in southern Ontario is around $500 a month.
    My accountant doesn’t permit a daily average cost per child, but some do.

    Going forward - get seperate receipts. Or put your day care purchases through first, get the teller to subtotal it and then do the household. That's what I do now there's just my husband and I at home.

    That way, we can show that once a month, our household is paying for the toilet paper, or dish soap. Other things we double up on - so we buy 2 boxes of eggs. One will go through as day care and one will go through as household. We can then prove that the shared items aren't all being put through the business but we only need to hold onto one receipt.
