We have been in your shoes not long ago, and we are so happy and thankful that we have found Valerie's Playhouse.
The Playhouse is a fun and engaging indoor and outdoor environment that has supported our two-year-old daughter in her growth and development. We have been so encouraged to see her learning new skills, making friends, expanding her vocabulary, and gaining an interest in potty training. It warms our hearts to hear her chatting excitedly about her day and seeing her eager to attend daycare, especially on days when the children go to play group at the local community center.
Valerie's openness and thoroughness in communicating her policies, expectations, and fees on her comprehensive website gave us the peace of mind that she has thought of pretty much everything we would have needed to ask about. Her policy on sickness and absences, and daily screening requirement also shows how seriously she takes the health and safety of the children that are in her care, as well as their families and her own.
Although our daughter's time at Valerie's Playhouse was short (part time temporary care during a time of transition), we are so grateful for the care that she received. We are especially grateful for Valerie's flexibility and availability, and willingness to accommodate us on short notice.
If you are looking for a daycare provider that creates a fun and loving environment for your child, values the health and wellbeing of all the children in the daycare, and is well organized and professional, we recommend that you choose Valerie's Playhouse. To Whom It May Concern:
At the time when we were given a letter such as this (along with over 20 others!), we were very nervous. Our childcare plans had fallen through, and we needed someone take on our then 13-month-old son as soon as possible. And yet, we didn’t want to leave our only child with “just anyone”.

Discovering Valerie’s Playhouse was the best thing we could have asked for. Valerie took the time during our initial interview to connect with our son, allow him to get used to the environment, and answer all our questions. She shared our values of socialization, spending time outdoors, and learning through play. Her commitment to keeping everyone safe and healthy was just what we’d been hoping to find in our search for childcare.

Though our placement was only for six weeks in total, we saw wonderful growth in our boy. Being a child of the pandemic – and with us being first-time parents – had left him a bit timid and us perhaps overcautious. With Valerie’s help, we saw him develop, socialize, learn to enjoy all manner of food, and gain the confidence to start walking to get around, and not just a fun game of a couple of steps played with mommy and daddy.

Valerie’s Playhouse is a wonderful and safe environment where we never had any worries or misgivings about our son’s safety. The backyard play environment is wonderful. And finally, Valerie herself obviously cares about each one of her little clients – their immediate needs and their developmental needs as well.

We would like to highly recommend Valerie’s Playhouse for your childcare requirements. Our son’s time there was nothing but beneficial for him, and while we’re happy to have found a spot in a city-licensed daycare from here on in, we’re honestly sad at the thought he won’t be spending his weekdays with “Aunty Valerie” anymore. Valerie’s Playhouse will be an extremely positive foundation for your child’s (or children’s!) care.

When we began looking for care in January 2021, Valerie’s was the first daycare we interviewed. It was Covid and we were extremely nervous about transitioning our first child to daycare.

Valerie’s kindness and patience helped us to ease our anxieties. Her Covid protocols and screenings ensured that all families are safe during the pandemic.

The handbook outlined the expectations and was helpful for new parents. She provides healthy snacks and meals through the day. Often, they would be outside at the end of the day for pick up. My daughter was always happy and tired after a day at Valerie’s.

If we did not live so far, we would have happily kept our daughter with Valerie until she was old enough for school.

"Our son has been going to Valerie's since the end of Jan. 2021 and he smiles every time we get there, and is in a great mood every time we pick him up.

The transition week was a tremendous help for all of us to get accustomed to being apart for the whole day, which is something we hadn't ever done prior to daycare.

He loves going there, and we feel secure knowing he's in good hands, and having a great time - we especially love the outdoor play area.

It's also very comforting having access to so much information on Valerie's website (she answers so many questions you wouldn't even think to ask) and having the Covid-19 screening and cleaning protocols in place. Having the updates on the private Facebook group is also a great way to see what the kids are up to during the day.

We would definitely recommend Valerie to anyone looking for home daycare."

To whom it may concern:
We reached out to Valerie in the fall of 2019 seeking the best child care we could possibly
find for our daughter who was 13 months old at the time and we immediately felt
comfortable with Valerie and her home daycare setting.

Valerie is a very helpful, understanding and compassionate care giver with a very high level
of professionalism. As the Covid-19 concerns were growing in our community, Valerie has -
and still is – very proactive in her effort to protect the children under her care, as well as her
family and the rest of the community by applying the protocol recommended by the
government of Canada with the highest precaution as for cleanliness, social distancing and
face protection. The latest update has been to ask parents, via the “Valerie's Playhouse”
website, to check the temperature of their child and fill-in a quick survey on a daily basis to
assess whether the child is able to attend daycare. This survey which takes three minutes
to complete has proven to be very helpful and is one of the numerous examples that
contributed to building a complete trust towards Valerie, her immediate family and the other
parents.

Despite the uncertainty that was brought to our community via the media, Valerie's
extraordinary efforts in making her Playhouse a safe and healthy space has also contributed
to creating a real bond with our daughter Maya who has recently turned 2 years and 4
months. Her continued communication via the private facebook group is very valuable as
we are aware of the type of indoor and outdoor activities as well as the type of meal our
child is receiving. Our daughter is a happy and healthy kid, and we know that it is also
thanks to Valerie who is an excellent and very experienced professional who truly cares
about our child. And while we understand that not every moment can be displayed on the
facebook group, we are sometimes pleasantly surprised to discover that our little one says a
new word or does an animal-like yoga position that we know she has learned at the
Playhouse.

My husband and I are grateful to have found the Playhouse and we know that it is the best
choice we could have made. As our daughter has been attending daycare throughout the
pandemic up to this day, we highly recommand to any parent looking for the best home
daycare in the neigbourhood to hire Valerie for all these reasons.

Valerie did a magnificent job caring for our daughter this past year. Her professionalism, organization, and flexibility were welcome (and very helpful!) both in choosing to put our daughter in her care, and especially in these uncertain times. Covid-19 has impacted us all, but we believe that she truly went above and beyond to keep all of us informed and up to date on the Government’s response and how it would impact the care of our child. Her honest and open communication can be credited with easing this transition, and the videos of her performing story time, helped to engage, and assuage, our daughter while we were all in quarantine.

It was interesting to realize all the benefits she bring to her childcare centre, made even more obvious by their absence once we quarantined. The enriching environment she provided, with lots of age appropriate toys and fun books and stories, the nutritious and yummy snacks and meals she provided the children. Valerie clearly cares deeply for each and every child (and family) she cares for.

I would whole-heartedly recommend Valerie’s Playhouse to any parent.

Our son is 19-months-old and has been in the care of Valerie’s Play House for the last nine months. Our son has adjusted very well to the daily daycare routine at Valerie’s and is always happy to be dropped off in the morning to play with his friends. We find him in good humour and smiling at the end of the day when we pick him up.

We receive regular communications from Valerie about the daycare schedule and other updates, and receive regular photo updates during the day through the private family Facebook page. The kids get lots of outdoor time playing in the backyard, which is great, and make trips to local playgroups for some extra social activity.

My husband and I are very pleased to provide an updated reference for Valerie, who up until a few weeks ago was our son’s full-time child care provider.

Our son was in Valerie’s care between age 11 months and age two years and six months. Our reason for relocating our son was purely logistical. We had no concerns whatsoever with the quality of care that he received and are confident that the time he spent with Valerie was to his great developmental benefit.

We noticed that our son was consistently happy to go to Valerie and typically in an excellent mood when we picked him up at the end of the day. If anything, he didn’t always want to come home. As his language developed, he spoke glowingly of Valerie, her two wonderful boys and her kind husband, all of whom treated our son as family. We particularly appreciated that our son was able to spend so much time outdoors in the day-care area in the backyard, on walks, or at local playgrounds. He enjoyed that very much. He also loved participating in the school run, and it was amazing to see how he quickly he progressed from riding in the stroller to walking happily alongside Valerie as he got older.

We found Valerie to be consistently organized and responsive. We appreciated her regular updates and newsletters, and took delight in seeing photos and videos of our son’s day through the closed and secret parents’ Facebook group. We also appreciated that parking was always accessible—even when all parents arrived simultaneously—and that the step and walkway salted throughout winter.

In terms of the recent change: we found that our son transitioned to his new daycare beautifully and without a single tear. In fact, the new staff expressed surprise at how comfortable our son appeared trying new activities and foods, expressing himself clearly, and playing well with other children. We credit Valerie for having helped to socialize him so well in this and other respects.

Our 16-month-old son has been under Valerie’s care for approximately six months. During that time, our experience with Valerie has been overwhelmingly positive.
Regarding our son’s daily routine and experiences, we have found the following to be consistently true:
• Our son is happy to be dropped off with Valerie, and enjoying himself when we come to pick him up. It is clear from his behaviour that he regards Valerie as one of “his people” and that he is happy to be with her.
• Our son receives nutritious meals and snacks, and is kept well hydrated with water throughout the day. I note that there several healthy food items that we could not persuade him to eat but through Valerie’s persistence, he now enjoys.
• Weather permitting, our son engages in a great deal outdoor play, both in the day care’s extensive play area to the rear of the house, and in local indoor and outdoor public play areas. It is clear he enjoys this thoroughly and that it is to his developmental benefit.
Regarding our experience with Valerie specifically, we have found the following to be consistently true:
• Valerie is soft-spoken, kind and patient with our son.
• Valerie is exceptionally well-organized and professional.
• Each day, we receive a verbal report of what our son’s day was like and if there was anything of concern, as well as regular photo updates throughout the day via a secure Facebook page for Families only.
• Valerie provides bimonthly newsletters with important information regarding the daycare, any changes in schedule, as well as anything else that we as parents might find pertinent.
• It is clear that Valerie works hard to provide variation for her charges. In addition to trips to the park, playdates, and trips to the local indoor play area, this summer our son visited both the Agriculture Museum and the War Museum, as well as a local fire station. (Consequently, he is currently obsessed with trucks, tractors and fire engines.)
In summary, we are very happy with the care that our son receives and, as busy professionals who commute into work, appreciate the flexibility and efficiency Valerie delivers in her business.
Our son is busy, happy, thriving and healthy and has consistently good days under Valerie’s care. My husband and I are pleased to serve as a reference for her based on our experience to date."

Our son has been under Valerie’s care since February 2016. He was a year old at the time of enrolment. In the past three months, she has shown herself to be a responsible, patient, caring and organized daycare provider.
Valerie keeps herself up-to-date with regulations regarding the daycare, as well as health and safety standards. She is also very good at communicating any pertinent information to us in a timely manner, and provides a monthly newsletter with helpful reminders.
The daycare space at Valerie’s Play House is always brightly lit and well-maintained, and she regularly takes the children in her care outside to get fresh air and play. She has plenty of toys and activities to keep them busy indoors as well.

Throughout his time with Valerie, she has proven herself as a caring, and extremely capable and knowledgeable daycare provider.

Through her learn through playing approach, our son has shown tremendous signs of social and verbal development. His vocabulary continues to grow, he never forgets his manners, and is very comfortable with other children. Valerie has toys and activities for any type of weather. At afternoon pickup, he is always very happy and cheerful from his day with her.

Valerie operates her day care in an exceptionally organized manner. She is up to speed on all legal and safety standards, and we take great comfort knowing that she has all bases covered. "To prospective parents and guardians:

We have a daughter under the care of Valerie. We enrolled our daughter in Valerie's Home Daycare on January 26, 2015. She was 1 year of age at the time of enrollment.

We find Valerie to have many of the qualities that make a good childcare provider. She has a pleasant disposition and is very interactive with the children. The games, toys and activities provided by the daycare are creative and stimulating, including outdoor activities whenever possible.

Valerie's organizational skills are very good. In this regard, her various policies are all clearly documented with rules, expectations and remedial courses of action explained in writing. She is thorough and diligent in her communications with parents/guardians, always providing timely updates on issues or matters of interest, including providing newsletters highlighting pertinent information and reminders.

The environment in which Valerie cares for the children is well equipped, child safe and bright.

The most telling recommendation of course is that at the end of the day our daughter appears well cared for and cheerful.
