Joys of Wonder is a preschool enrichment program in the community of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario. Inspired by the child-centered and inquiry-based approach to learning of Reggio Emilia, Joys of Wonder empowers children to explore their curiosity in the world around them, to express their thoughts and ideas in infinite ways, and to experience joy through the process of learning and discovering!
At Joys of Wonder, children are co-constructors of the direction of learning in a fun and safe environment. This provides them with authentic learning experiences that are driven by their interests within a self-guided curriculum. Children are viewed as uniquely capable, competent, and immensely creative, and are provided with endless opportunities and means to express themselves.
The role of the teacher is often that of a co-learner, warmly encouraging, collaborating and guiding students as they explore their wonders and inquiries, make new discoveries, and express their unique thoughts and ideas.
The classroom is the third teacher, offering a wide variety of thoughtfully selected, enriching, and open-ended materials that engage and challenge the student to explore their learning environment in unique and creative ways.
These enriching early-childhood experiences promote the development of problem-solving skills, a love of learning, and the foundations for joyful, curious, and self-motivated learners! |
