Bright Beginnings Daycare provides enriching, entertaining, and developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor activities on a daily basis. Children are provided with an endless amount of enthusiasm as well as tools to explore with; the facility is equipped with toys, games, musical instruments, books and computers.
Physical Development: Daily developmentally appropriate gross motor activities such as outdoor running and games, indoor time on the climbing structure, pushcars and structured physical activity are incorporated, as well as weekly visits from a gymnastics instructor. Fine motor activities are incorporated daily through arts and craft colouring, cutting and pasting activities, ball tossing outdoors, and playdough play. There is a weekly lesson/activity from a specialized children`s music instructor where children will have access to different kinds of musical instruments.
Social Development: Children are exposed to positive social skill building situations on a daily basis through: conversation with child care workers and their peers, group structured activities such as circle time where they will practice taking turns, sitting quietly through a story, and engaging in group discussion, as well as natural social interactions with peers and childcare workers.
Intellectual Development: Children have free access to books and structured computer time (3yrs+) on a daily basis as well as circle time which includes a group discussion of: the calendar: month, day, day of the week, the weather of the day, the season, the letter of the week, the number of the week, as well as a discussion of the weekly theme e.g. thanksgiving, or hibernating animals, a story will be read based on the weekly theme as well. Each child will get a chance to put up an element of circle time on the board e.g. season. A Calgary author (Simon Rose) will be visiting the facility once a month to build and read a personalized story which they will help to illustrate.
Creative Development: Children have free access to crayons and pictures (coloring pages will be relevant to the weekly theme e.g. Thanksgiving turkey). There is at least one craft a week which involves coloring, cutting and pasting e.g. paper plate jack-o-lantern. A painting easel is set up for children to use.
Emotional Development: Children are instructed by child care workers on different natural emotions to certain situations and will be nurtured according to the individual needs of each child e.g. a hug during drop off time or snuggle before nap time. |
