Brightside is a flexible and fun education based home daycare just south of downtown with two caregivers (one full-time, one part-time), allowing us to offer extended hours and more one on one time with the children. Currently, we provide care for three children (all 2.5 years old) and are looking for one more child to join us.
As there are two of us, we are able to offer age appropriate activities for children at different developmental stages. We also offer lots of love and cuddles. We feel this is especially important when a young child is having an off day.
In addition to free playtime, we emphasize learning through structured play, music and crafts. From past experience, this enriched learning environment enables full-time children starting at our daycare prior to 18 months of age (as well as several who began at a later age) to recognize basic shapes, count to 20, recite their alphabet, recognize and name 10 colours, sight read smaller words, and much more by the age of three. Currently, our three 2.5 year olds are reading up to 40 sight words. Often, the first thing the one little guy asks for upon arriving, and again several times throughout the day, is to have fun with the words.
We offer a safe, friendly environment, promoting a child’s self-esteem and allowing them to feel accepted and celebrated. We encourage appropriate social behaviours and strive to provide each child with the proper tools to peacefully resolve conflict.
A full day with us includes 2 snacks and one meal all based upon Canada’s Food Guide (we can provide two meals when necessary). Our daycare is located in a smoke free/pet free home with a spacious and bright main floor playroom. We enjoy daily outdoor play (weather permitting) and frequent walks to the nearby parks, city wading pool (with lifeguard), and splash pad.
The children are also taken on many outings about the city several times per week to expand their experiences and opportunities to learn. We visit libraries, Adventures on Wonderland, Kidscape, various outdoor parks, splash pads and wading pools, the Children’s Museum and other fun destinations. Appropriate car seats are provided by the daycare and all other outing costs are covered by us as well. (Parents will not have any extra expenses over the daily rate).
I work part-time at the daycare and have many years of experience as a babysitter, full-time nanny, camp counselor, and classroom assistant in a junior kindergarten/kindergarten classroom.
My coworker is a mother of five as well as being a retired kindergarten-grade 6 teacher. She has many years of experience working with young children in her community through a wide variety of positions. She also successfully ran her own educational home daycare for many years when her children were young.
We have lots of experience working with young children with ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning difficulties. We are both certified in infant and child CPR.
We are able to accommodate shift workers and are available evenings, overnights, and weekends.
Our rate is $40/day. If care is required on a statuatory holiday, there is an additional $10 fee per child.
