Meet the Educator
My name is Katie. I am a Registered Early Childhood Educator (2007), with an Honours BA in Psychology (2006) and a Bachelor of Education (2008). I have many years of experience working in elementary schools and daycare. My education has given me a strong foundation in the stages of child development; while my experience, has allowed me to observe this development first hand. I have taken the best techniques and educating skills from teachers and colleagues I have had to develop my approach to childcare. I focus on developing a happy, healthy and social child in a calm, caring and comfortable home environment. I strive to foster independent, life-long learners, through developmentally appropriate challenges that encourage each child to reach their full potential.
I am a married, mother of a beautiful, 10 month old girl. As a mother who loves children, I have decided to open my home to nurture your children, along with my daughter. We have a smoke free, fur free home. I am first aid and CPR certified. In addition, I have a clean Police Record Check.
Philosophy
I strive to provide developmentally appropriate play based learning program, which will allow children to master the skills necessary for a happy, healthy and social childhood. I believe that each child has unique individual needs and abilities. I offer children an environment in which they have maximum potential to experience secure, stimulating and enjoyable opportunities for growth.
Hours of Operation
7:00am to 5:30pm
*I am prepared to discuss any extended care needs that you may have. My husband is a shift worker so I understand how tough childcare can be to find. I am open to working evenings and the odd weekend.
Fees
Hedgehog Homecare charges $35 per day, per child under the age of four and $20 per day, per child in before and after school care ($30 when the child will be in my care for the full day). Fees are to be paid weekly on the Friday before the week commences. Posted-dated cheques are accepted. Payment does not vary due to parental vacation, statutory holidays and/or illness of the child. Tax receipts are provided annually during the month of February or upon your departure from the daycare.
Nutrition
I will provide two snacks and one hot meal each day in accordance with the Canadian Food Guide. I will work with a four week menu rotation. The following is a sample of one of the four weekly menus I will serve. Meal plans will be posted each week so you know exactly what your child is eating.
Outdoor Play
Weather permitting; we will be playing outside each day for one to two hours. We will stay inside when the weather is worse than -20 with the windchill during the winter and over +30 with the humidex in the summer. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

4:00pm Free play (outdoors)
5:00pm Tidy up/ quiet activities
5:30pm Daycare closes
The daily schedule will vary based on the weather, in addition to, the ages and needs of the children in care. If a child is in need of a morning nap, they will nap on demand. As well, bottle-fed babies will be fed on demand. Washroom breaks and diaper changes will be completed as needed (more frequently if toilet training).
