Letting them cry through the nap

I posted a while ago about some nap problems I was having.

Since them I've arranged a fool proof set up so no one wakes no one. I've ignored the crying totally.

Some days are ok. Some days he's up and down for the entire 2 hours.

I have 2 children upstairs. Child 1 will cry 45 min into the nap. He'll cry for about 1/2 an hour... sometimes longer. Then quiet for about 15 min then cry again for a while... then quiet for a few min... then cry again... you get the point.
He's been doing this for a month.

So I'm at the point now where I just turn the monitor down. If I go up he just cries more and I'm not loosing my quiet time for one child.

Anyone else have a kid like this? He's almost 14 months old if that helps anything. He used to do a morning nap, but he doesn't anymore.

OOOH! I hear ya, I take care of my nephew, who does this very thing. Although his crying is much shorter, he will cry when I first lay him down for about 3-5 minutes tops, then right to sleep, but wakes up any time noise is made (which is nearly impossible to avoid) or about every 20-30 minutes through nap. The thing is...he does it at home too! :) They will tip toe around the house during his naps to try avoid waking him, and he IS quite "spoiled" to say the least. He makes it through when he is here, and I firmly believe he is better off some days when here...I do not cater to any child. Not even a nephew. :)

I have one 14 month old exactly how you describe. But the good news is he is leaving in two weeks :) I need my quite time! The kids I have now do not! Sit for a second. They are constantly on the go the only time they sit well quite is when they go to sleep. Right now I'm exhausted and this kid is still talking and it has been an hour already! :(

At my daycare the children have to learn that naptime means you are in your bed quietly while all your friends are sleeping. I will give them toys or books if they only sleep an hour and a half for instance but most of the children here sleep 2 hours so everyone has to be in bed for at least 2 hours. Then I start to change diapers for the ones who are awake and let them get up and still ask them to be as quiet as possible for the little ones who are still alseep for a while. However, while transitioning a new baby sometimes there is some screaming going on. They quickly learn that they are not getting out of the bed or being picked up so they may as well sleep.

I feel bad for you a&b and it's a special non-treat when you get a screamer who won't sleep. I hope the child gets it soon.

Not going back is called CIO - crying it out. And the reason you are having some success is because CIO WORKS. Kid learn that no matter how long they cry they are NOT getting up from sleep.

I never, ever go back from day one. Once they are down they are down.
