Still crying at naptime

So my new dcg, been here 2 weeks now is much better in many ways she plays great all day, happy and smiley, we've curbed her throwing food on the floor and spitting food out, she isnt hitting much anymore but naptime is still brutal some days. this morning she went down perfect and slept for an hour. this afternoon, she went up great but was quiet for only 30 minutes and has been crying ever since. I am getting no enjoyment from my down time and getting nothing done because she is so loud. she's disturbing theother kids even though she is in the farthest room from where they are. I adore this little girl and i realy like mom as well. we've come so far from her screaming all day long so i know that progress has been made but how in the world do i get a 2 hour nap from her. she's only 13 months old and shows clear signs that she's tired when its naptime. help:(

Ask mom if on weekends and up till she started daycare if she left the child in bed for a set amount of time or got her up whenever she cried even it had been only 20 minutes. Mom will need to be on board too for the she stays till time is up and only then will the child learn that crying gets me know where and she will learn to soothe herself back to sleep.

You might try letting her have a couple toys to entertain herself with when she does wake but not much that a 13 month old would play with long enough to matter.

mom is totally on board with my cio method although i dont think she would approve of long term crying. she really isnt crying because there are no tears, its more whining/screaming really. she slept great athome last weekend and my consistency over the last 2 weeks has dramatically improved her nighttime sleep according to mom. i really dont want to terminate because of this because i really enjoy her all day except for naptime. she has a stuffie in her playpen, she sleeps alone, mom has provided a sleep machine same as at home and the room is dark same as at home. I have watched school aged kids for the last few years so i havent dealt with this for awhile and its taking a toll on me. I dont seem to be able to tune it out like i used to.

I had one that started with me 5 weeks ago who was and is a dreamchild during the day...never cries...easy going and happy, but we have struggled over naptime. Only this week (week 5) am I finally getting some good 2-2.5 hour naps out of him most days. In the beginning it was 45 minutes. It takes time and consistency and they ahve to know that you are not going to coem and get them until naptime is over. I have had others that took a good month as well. Keep going with it and she will learn..it just may take 4-6 weeks...but so worth it in the end!

Try putting her down for her morning nap earlier .... If she normally goes down from 9-10 back it up 15 minutes earlier each day till she is going down from 8-9 and see if that makes a difference ..... If not then start shortening the nap by 10 minute increments. I have a new one I just started 3 weeks ago and mom also could not get him to sleep very long in the afternoon so I suggested back it up and shortening it... I now put him down from 8-8:30 (only 30 mins) and then he goes down again in the afternoon at 12:15 for 2.5 hours. Give it a shot

I'm in my 2nd month with a 13 month old who is still doing lots of screaming and not napping as long as all the others who are into a great routine. But my little guy is still part-time and I find they never settle in properly until the Mom goes back to work full-time and the child is here 5 days/week. But he's dropped his morning nap here and I think that's really affecting him badly.

Children really need routine and it's hard on them until their little bodies adjust. I agree with Crayola, I've nudged our naptime up to 12:30 and they fall asleep quickly and sleep great. It's great when you get a child who adjusts quickly but I find it takes a few months.

I agree with Crayola. Try and put her down a bit earlier for her nap in the morning so she is really tired for her afternoon nap or, what I do with my little ones who still need a morning nap, is to only let them sleep for 30 mins. That way, they are ready to go down for the afternoon nap with everyone else.

Yes that is what I do with my dcb ... He is not really ready to give up the am nap but if I let him sleep for more then 30 mins the pm nap is a disaster. But if I don't put him down in the morning then he just Passes out on the floor so he needs the little power nap early just to get him through lunch.

she doesnt arrive until 8:30. mom said this morning that she had a rough night and should be really tired (she has a cold) so i gave a snack at 9 because she doesnt eat much at breakfast at home so i thought a full tummy might help but she cried for an hour this morning and she doesnt seem tired at all. maybe she doesnt need th emorning nap at all. she's so great in all other areas. its not going to help that she has a cold this week so i dont know what to expect . thanks for the advice.

OMG I'm ready to throw in the towel. she did not sleep this morning, was up most of the night apparently and went up for afternoon nap and she was quiet for 20 minutes and has been crying every since. i ccant get any down time.
