My Daycare space is located in our basement and can get a little chilly. Does anyone use a space heater or alternative to take the chill off? My first concern, of course, is safety. I just don't want to turn the thermostat up to heat the rest of the house all day as well when I really don't need to.
could you heat your daycare with a space heater first thing in the morning and then remove it when the kids come? Or put it on a timer to come on an hour or so before arrival. I just wouldn't want to risk little fingers around it.

I have a small space heater that I often turn on in the basement when I get up and then when we go down an hour or so later I turn it off and put it up. The chill is off the floor and the kids running around keeps them warm. By the time the chill is coming back it is time to go upstairs anyways. My gang also wear runningshoes in the house or at least are supposed to so feet are protected if we are downstairs. I have carpet and thick underpad to help with the heat.
I have a small space heater that is very safe with plastic parts all around it so that there is no way the children's fingers can get near the heater elements. It's in a closet right so I don't know the brand but when you are shopping just take a good look at the different types and buy the safest one you can find. That's what I did. I can't control the heat in my apartment and they turn it on and off at a certain date each year but sometimes it's pretty darned cold in here so we need the little heater.
Yes I too have a small space heater (Canadian Tire) it's about 8" tall and 5" wide. Give off a LOT of heat and senses when it's warm and stops then kicks in again. It has a safety they if it's lifted up the turns off and it's covered with 2 or 3 layers of netting. It's also not hot!
