Teething..AHHHHHHHHH HHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 14mo dcg who is a terrible teether. The last 2 days she cries non stop and chews on everything except her teething toys. She prefers cardboard type books and has destroyed a number of those as well as wooden puzzles and plastic food. I have given her Advil as per moms request but it doesnt seem to do much to help. I froze faceclothes last night for her to use today. Any other suggestions. DCM doesnt have any more ideas for me. But it is getting expensive with everything she has destroyed. :(

Also. I have my own terrible teething 19 month old boy and a 15 month old DCB teething as well..........more wine please. ;)

Obviously remove from play anything not meant for teething like board books - my books don't go in the mouth period for any reason. Same with puzzles - if we can't play with things they were intended we don't get them because it isn't fair to the others to have their things destroyed.

There are teething drops and rubs and creams and while I am not anadvocate for them for a child like this they need some more assistance so I would be asking mom to provide them. Also it is very common - no matter what some experts say - for a child to get an ear infection or throat infection at the time of teething due to the extra build up of fluids - same thing that causes the extra drooling as in it has to come from somewhere so be sure that that has been ruled out if child is really that upset.

If she is chewing on plastic food she is looking for something harder than squeeky toys and softer than hard toys. I have a few cheap toys meant just for this. They were a set of alphabet letters which fit in the mouth well. There is a giraffe toy from toysrus some moms swear by. There is a teething necklace that is supposed to help and we discussed that on here at one point but I won't allow them in daycare so have no idea if they work.

If child is just going to chew and cry anyways go ahead and put her in a playpen or play yard and give her only access to acceptable chewing toys - empty yougurt type containers work well actually as they fit the curve of the mouth. Then just recycle when done.

I have one if those little mesh thingys that you put fruit in for infants to gum ... Try putting some frozen fruit in it like grapes, or cut up oranges. For my own kids I used homeopathic teething tablets ... Not sure if they really worked or if it was just in my head. So far my dcks have just been the red cheeked drooly type and not the cry all day type.
But yes I agree with play felt .... Remove the toys or put the child in the high chair or playpen with acceptable toys.

I feel your pain... Before using viburcol, my son would cry nonstop all day... it was to a point where other kids would ask why he was crying that much..!

Yep. Between my own almost 18m old getting her molars, and the other 11 and 19 month olds..... Earplugs and copious amounts of wine are getting me through. LoL
I use Hy's Teething tablets. They dissolve in a tsp of water, and you just give it to the little one from the spoon. I know that they work, because they help my daughter almost immediately.
Definitely talk to mom/dad about what else can be done. Both you and the child are suffering!!
