Hi, I am new here, I have been looking after kids in my home for about 3 yrs, and I am in need of some advice.
I have a 4 yr old Dcb I have had him since he was 1, and lately he is impossible to handle. In the last 2 weeks he has broken at least 5 toys and he hurts the younger kids. I have talked to the parents, it does no good.
What can I do to put and end to this? I have no more ideas.
Please help!
is he braking the toys on purpose? if so then you might want to add this to your contract (its in mine)
if the toys are being broken by accident them this will not apply. So far the toys I have had broken are by accident. Some toys just are not made well. But if the child does brake a toy on purpose (being too rough after being told to calm down) this will come into effect.Quote:

Thanks BlueRose, I spoke to a parent (Df) and he says he is going to replace the toy Dcb broke on Friday. This parent has made alot of promises that I haven't seen results to, so we shall see if a toy comes on Monday.
How do I help the Dcb though, how can I help him to understand that this isn't right, I have taken fav toys away, I have done time out, what feels like a 100 times, and it does nothing.
I would try giving him toys that are considered "baby" toys because he is so rough with the big kid toys. Once he can prove to you that he is "big" enough to play with other toys, then allow him to play with the toys again.
that sounds good. If he is rough with these toys try stuffed animals. Keep taking toys away and time outs. Also keep the parents responsible for replacing any broken toys. They will get tried of replacing them and start working with their kid at home.Quote:

So, no toy has come yet, and I asked today if one was coming, and I was told that I didn't understand how hard this was for them and that the toy was coming on top of the other toys they already gave me.
Okay this is true, but they gave me some toys 2 YEARS AGO. Were they given to me for future toys that their kid was gonna break? :unsure:
