Screaming

Hello Ladies!

I have an 18 mon old dcg who screams so loud my ears are left ringing. If she is told no or is unsucessful taking a toy or sippy cup from another child she will unleash and I have my other children running to me scared and in just plain shock not understanding what is happening. :(When she has a tantrum i just leave her to it on the floor having a fit and remove the other children to the next play room. When she is quiet I go in and talk to her saying we have to be a nice girl. we have toshow love, no taking toys or sippy away from .... I have talked to the mother and she stayed home the next day with dcg thinking she needed more mommy time. The day after was better but its back to the old ways again.I have to have her in jacket and boots for home time or she will loose her mind yelling while her mom and I try to get her dressed to leave and even then at times it is not enough. Once I hand her to mom she throws her body back and lets out screams so loud I wince. My afternoon nappers are disturbed waking up scared. I have never termed before and I just am unsure if there are other things i can try or suggest before terming. :confused:

I had one who did this for the first two weeks, including screaming for the entire two-hour nap. And I do mean screaming!! ear-piercing-how-the-heck-does-she-not-have-laryngitis-type screaming. I'm glad I stuck it out though, because she hasn't screamed in 6 months, and is an absolutely delightful 2-year old now. I just ignored her screaming, so she had to stop. I made sure to put her in a room at the far end of the house for nap time so her screams wouldn't disturb the other children. I thought I would lose my mind the first few days.... she would scream if she was in the highchair and I went to the kitchen to get something... kitchen is attached to eating area, but I was sometimes out of sight for a second... I would say give it a week and see if there is any improvement. It took two weeks for her to stop screaming, but after a week, I could tell it was getting better.

I've got two that do the exact same thing that your dcg is doing. It's been happening for 5 weeks not and isn't getting better. Time outs away from the group don't work, ignoring doesn't work, comforting doesn't work either....I've decided to replace them and have an interview this evening. I'm not terminating solely because of the screaming, it's also because mom doesn't seem to be on the same page as me with regards to treating this behavior ...it took her three weeks to finally realize that she needs to do something more about this....at pick ups she doesn't even bother to ask how they were that day and its always me that has to address the screaming with her. It's totally disruptive to the entire day care, and dcm knows that, so no cooperation = termination.

This is key. When parents are NOT on board to fixing problems like this then, yes, it is time for them to go. There is no sense us putting in all that work and listening to all that screaming when the parents won't help the situation. It will NEVER get better when you have parents who don't see it as a problem.
