Poor Behaviour During Outtings...WWYD?

Now that the nice weather has finally arrived I like to take my kids out for walks twice a day to the park or even just around the block...my extremely demanding diva dcg (18 months) throws fits when I'm getting everyone ready to go...if I don't put her socks and shoes on first she screams....she's usually in time out while we are getting ready ...then after our walk as we approach the driveway she screams at the top of her lungs because she wants to stay outside and not go back in...it's embarrassing! I can't keep my windows open and my neighbors can all hear her screaming before and after...,,I'm thinking of leaving her at home with my helper if she continues this Behaviour...is it too harsh to exclude her from our walks until she learns how to behave properly?

You have a helper and you're even questioning what to do??? Leave her with the helper :laugh: Sorry, but even at 18 mo. most children know after repeated behaviour what is acceptable and what is not. If I had a choice of leaving her behind with an assistant then I would do just that! When she learns to curb her "diva" behaviour, then she can rejoin the group.

I would leave her with the helper too. Usually my kids behave when going out, but my son is the one that was giving me trouble. So, one day that dad was in the house, I left him with dad because he was misbehaving. He was good for a while. Some other date he did again, but dad wasn't home. So we all stayed indoors (I have to take snow suits off!) Thank God the rest were infants so I did not have any complains, other than my son's :) . He never did it again. He loooooves being outside. He doesn't want to miss that.

Just to play the devils advocate though, wouldn't leaving her with your helper be a bit of a reward for a "diva" child. I mean she will get one on one attention and have all the daycare toys to herself. Or are you just splitting the group up. Either way aren't you giving her what she wants furthering her "diva" behaviour? Just a thought :)

I also would be hesitant to just leave her a home, if she consistently sees that she isn't going to get her way then the behaviour problem should get better. Don't be embarrassed by the crying, just do what you need to do.

I don't have any children who behave like that at my daycare thank goodness, however my rule at the parks or on any outing is that if there is any kind of bad behaviour the child can sit in the stroller or go and play nicely with the others. Period. Why don't you try leaving her home with your helper, explaining to her that she can come outside and have fun when she stops her bad behaviour.

i think the only way this would work would be to have her either come and if she screams have her sit in the stroller or have her stay with your helper with clear instructions she isn't allowed to do anything. Maybe even have her lie on her cot while you go out.
