How do you serve your notices? Email/text/written?

Like for example, if you have to give them notice of termination, account in arrears etc. I only watch a child once a week and they are three weeks in arrears but haven't come in three weeks either. I probably wont see them until their next contracted day (next monday and that's even if they come). i have drawn up the paperwork saying if they don't pay immediately, then i will terminate. I don't know how to get the paperwork to them. I don't have their new address because they just moved last week or an email address. Could i give notice by text or phone call and tell them to come get their paperwork (hopefully bringing my outstanding $)?

I think you have to find a way to get to them before you serve notice. Can you call them and confirm attendance for the contracted day so you're prepared? Update their address at the same time?

I have always given notice by letter in person and by email. It depends on the situation.

I think in this case you need to make contact and get her to pay up. Then this would be a good time to change policies to payment before care.

I would call them and ask when they plan to pay and when the child's next day is. If they come that sporadically then they need to pay as each day is used or give you a cheque for 10 days and then you subtract as used till they owe another one or something similar.

They need to be told if account is not paid before their next scheduled day the child can not come.

In this case I would text /call them to ask when the child is coming back.... When they respond with a date I would ask them to EMT $xxx to cover the amount they owe you plus the days they are booking for. I would then let them know moving forward you need a months worth of fees paid in advance.

I spoke to the mom yesterday and told her that payment must be made ASAP. She said se would be 'around on Wednesday. not good enough, i asked her to ask her husband to pass by on his way into work today. No one stopped in or called. I have texted her and no reply. I have a feeling that if I terminate its going to be no skin off their back and I am out some of the money she owes me (because I would use the deposit for last weeks fees). At this point I am willing to accept that because clearly neither parent respectsmy business and contract, and won't have that. Too bad because I like the kid and he was adjusting so well.

Uhhhh!!! I HATE it when parents don't pay what they owe!!!!! So mad!

This is so tough because you need to have payment. You don't want to throw out threats or new policies until they are paid up.

The fact is... if they haven't been to you in 3 weeks then they probably have alternate care and won't worry about a threat of not giving care until they pay.

You almost need them to think you'd "like" payment and you're looking forward to seeing them the next time the child is booked in. Then when they don't show up with payment you can refuse care. No time to find an alternate in that case.

You still may not get paid... some people are just like this. but at least you've screwed up their day.

I would hit them with notice as soon as you receive payment and that way you're up to date and the deposit will pay for the last few days of care.
