I have a 6 yr old sibling here today and she is driving me nuts, actually all of the kids are. Must be the full moon. The 6 yr old has not been listening AT ALL today, so I made her rest on a cot for an hour and what did she do, keep the the kids awake!!! So I brought her upstairs to sit on the couch but she couldnt do that either so now she is on the floor! And still not sitting still. I told her no TV because she is not listening.
This is why I hate taking school age kids! I have one, but she's a gem and friends with my daughter so they leave me alone most days.
I'm so ready for the summer to be over. Send them all back to school already!
My 6 year old grandson was with us several days this summer and at naptime he layed quietly on his cot playing his video game, then he would sit up and read or play with puzzles, but he stayed quiet and on his cot. He knows my rules. Jodaycare, are you having this child back again? Talk to the child and the parent in the morning and lay down the law so the parent can give the child a talking to before they go to work.
6 yrs old is definitely old enough to follow some simple instructions! I wouldn't have her back again if it were me, I value my break time too much (and we deserve it too!). I care for an 8 yrs old during the summer (my daughter's friend) and gave notice just 2 nights ago that I won't be doing school age care next summer. I prefer the littles!!!
No she won't be back, today was her last day. She was only here for a few days over the summer. Mom is preggers and due at the end of Sept and Mom is having issues with both kids not listening. I told Mom at pickup that the girl had a rough day and Mom told the girl that they would be having a discussion tonight. Mom was unimpressed to say the least.Quote:

I had b/a school kids all of last year, and I will never make that mistake again! I'm focusing on the 1-3yrs crowd, and I'm so much more relaxed. The little ones are alot more work physically, but overall they listen to direction and respect my rules. I spent so much time dealing with attitude/aggression/verbal bullying from the older ones(girls included)that I was left emotionally drained at the end of the day. The reduced pay with b/a also wasn't worth it. I have a great crowd of little ones now, and will never take school agers again.
I have a 6 yr old girl that is driving me batty. We are fairly active around here so I had to laugh today when her mom said she wanted her to have a nap this afternoon. Now she is in the playroom sulking and having her quiet time until her mom gets her.
