I was just wondering what other dcp do after you send a dck home with double eye infection ?? I'm planning on a huge disinfecting lean up but do you inform other parents ? Take a day off to clean ( why am I get excited lol !!??)
Any help would be appreciated !!!
What if I get it ? Would I still get paid ?

I don't take the day off to clean, no. It's a bit of a hassle, but I do it that day/evening. Yes, I do inform the parents of any significant illnesses that pop up, paying particular attention to pink eye, hand/foot/mouth, roseola, ringworm, head lice, Fifth and, of course, stomach bugs. If I get pink eye, I just continue on with life and work as usual. As adults, we can usually refrain from rubbing our eyes, then touching everything in sight. If you're concerned about getting it, it might not hurt to have a bottle of Polysporin (eye/ear) drops on hand. I've used it for years on my kids, myself, and at the request of parents, on daycare children. If you start using them at the very first indication of pink eye, it is sufficient, if used properly and for adequate length of time, to stop the pink eye from progressing. I know for myself and my children, we've never had to go to the doctor for a prescription since I discovered these drops.
Had eye infections, ear infections and throat infections go through my daycare a few weeks ago. having another round of ear infections again in a few kids.
For myself I don't close to clean. I don't get paid if I close so unless I am really sick I don't close. I always tell all parents if something is going around. If one kid is home sick I share with everyone. This way if their child is showing similar symptoms they realize it could be the same illness instead of just brushing it off and blaming it on teething, something they ate etc.
When an illness goes through daycare I usually spray the play room/toys down with Lysol every evening. The kids don't share beds or bedding so I will wash the sick child's bedding while they are home (they shouldn't be at daycare with eye infection until on antibiotics for 24 hours providing it isn't extremely contagious - if it is they should be home until it clears up). I just make sure everyone is washing hands more and keep reminding little ones to keep their hands out of their mouths (and toys too).
The polysporn for eye and ear infection isn't always on the shelf but if you ask the pharmacist they will likely have it behind the counter. I wouldn't close to clean. I know its a big job to do after hours but really closing for the day is a little unwarranted in my opinion. I also would let all the parents know to be on the look out for first signs of anything. I would take the day off if I got pink eye and it was oozing as it is highly infectious and while as adults we can refrain from touching our eyes more so than the kids it's one of those situations where you don't realize how often we touch our eyes. Kind of like when you hurt a finger and strap it up, we aren't aware of how much we use something until we can't. I wonder how many times a day we rub our eyes or touch our eyes and we have no recollection of doing so. You also IMO can not expect to be paid to be off even if you do contract something from the children as it is just an occupational hazard. Next thing you know parents will be asking to be reimbursed by the parents of the child who originally brought it into daycare which is just ridiculous.

I agree with the others. I let the other parents know of any illnesses going around with any of the children or with myself. I do as much as I can during work hours so I clean all the toys, door handles, light switches, mats, cots, blankets, everything! I do a toy rotation at the same time so the cleaned toys just get put away and new toys get brought out.
Consider what the child did while at care that day before you sent him home and start there. If certain toys weren't in use then don't worry about them. The reality is if the germs were going to spread it has already happened when kids touched the toys child had already touched so spending any time cleaning because of the infection is really just to make you feel like you tried not to really make a difference.
